Some dipsh** backed into my rear bumper and scuffed/dented it. How much can I expect to pay to replace (new bumper, primed, painted, installed) it?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Figure $400 for bumper cover and $400-500 for paint/install at most dealers. Just had mine replaced also. If you have Silverstone color like me, do your research. The mica in the paint makes it hard to match, unless you allow them to blend into the fenders, which I don't recommend.

If I ever see the a$$ that hit my car I'll make sure that he pays at least as much as I did. What sucks is when I told the insurance company what had happened and even showed them pics of the car in contact with mine and the even pics of the other car's license plate, they said they couldn't do anything about it because they said that when they ran the plate it was a special type of plate and registration and that the insurance company and the cops couldn't do anything about it unless there was an injury or the car was used in a major felony. I don't think they even ran the plate because it didn't look like a regular CA plate, it looked more like a dealer plate. They said that the only thing they could do was file some claim with some government authority and hope for the best. The insurance company said that the DMV wouldn't give them the registration info without some type of court order. To this day I still think it's some type of insurance BS because they won't give me any info and they insist they can't do anything because they've been barred from persuing it further. It wasn't worth taking it to the insurance commissioner.

Now enough on that, back to the original thread.
If it's just minor damage I think the cost of repairing your rear bumper will be around $1000. I went to four different body shops to get an estimate and they were all about the same price except for one. They charged about $400 less for the paint but after seeing some of the paint jobs there I told myself no way and went with the best painter.
Only one word of caution to bring up to any body shop is the color. When I had my side skirts painted, we noticed that there were 3 different shades of Daytona Blue. PPG makes them with slight variance. I noticed that when I look at my fuel door it appears to be a little darker than the rest of the car. Not by huge amounts but slightly darker.
I would have the shop bring out the color sample cards just to verify the true variance color. Any good painter should be doing this.
Also as a side note....Since you have to replace your rear bumper...why not go with a custom aftermarket version?

Wow, this thread just made my day...I thought the $410 I got quoted was expensive, but they are able to salvage mine by heating it up to bring it back into shape (minor damage). Price includes complete sand and respray.
Hard to say aggro.. I see two possible situations
1) They didnt run the plate because it was such a small claim. It was either cheaper/easier to just write it off, or since they paid out so little, they wanted to do that but then adjust your rates for the claim, making more money in the long run.
2) If the plates really couldnt be looked up, sounds like it was probably a government vehicle. That would make perfect sense to me... lol.
