350z AT vs WRX
Basically my problem is this: my gf is going with her mom on friday to look at cars, but she has her heart set on getting a 350z in that grey color. She'll prolly get it, and it'll be an auto. I have an 05 wrx and I'm feeling a lil nervous cause I know this car can own me. How fast do the 350z auto tranny's trap? and what kinda et's are they pulling. I need to know ASAP so I can mod my car to be faster. I think losing to her could cause permanent shrinkage and I'd prefer to keep every inch I got.
Thx for the info guys

hm...yea the Z would beat a wrx pretty easily...even auto Z's. Auto and manual Z's are EXTREMELY similar in performance that we can't really say which is faster. But the Auto can be a lot more consistent that's for sure. Stock, they can trap anywhere from 13.7 to 14.3 I believe...thats just a ballpark anyways, trapping just above 100mph. It doesnt take much to get a auto to do that...just hit the gas and go. So you would need quite a bit of mods to keep up...or raise your boost quite a bit. Not too familiar with the impreza's tho...so sorry couldn't help u more on that. I feel u tho...
auto's are just as fast... dammit!! I can afford to go stage 2(engine management and full exhaust) wrx right now which is good for mid 13's at 99 or so. But crap, I'll prolly still lose from a roll. I almost wish she was getting the manual now so I could count on driver error.
ooohh oohhh wait, I got it... whats the difference performance wise between an auto Z and an auto G35? Maybe I could convince her she needs to cough up the extra cash for the G35.
know any places that'll trade straight up?
Trade in that Scooby for a Z.

I've seen G35xs (that's the sedan!) trap around 97 mph in auto form.
I'd say a G35c could hit 98's with a decent driver and closer to mid 90's with an average driver.
I could see one hitting 100 if everything went perfect but that's about it.

Time to trade your gf in for a Z!
I can give you a little more perspective on a G35 5AT (auto.)
I am more of a road course guy but I have done one trip to do quarter miles. Out of about 15 runs, my best time was a 14.2 at a bit over 98 mph. I don't have my slips in front of me so I can't tell you the other stats, but if you can wait until tonight I can get that info to you.
There are some AT G's that are faster tho - Derek173 on this forum has an auto G that has done 14.0 at over 100 - with a Z tube as the only mod.
I don't know of any stock AT G35's that have gone under 14.0. Derek's coupe is the closest of which I am aware.
Now on a road course, that's another story - I'd like the opportunity to see what my modified AT G (the major mods are on the suspension and brakes, with minor performance mods like intake and exhaust) would do with non-FI Z's, either AT or MT.
Personally I think it would come down to driver ability and the type of course. The lighter Z would be a bit faster on shorter, twisty courses, but longer, faster, 'sweeper' type courses might even things out for a longer wheelbase car like the G.

Find some reason to casually take your girl to the nearest Mazda dealer.
Then you say "Hey Hon (or whatever your pet name for her is)! there's one of those cool new rotary-powered RX-8s."
She'll say "So? I want a Z."
Then you say "Those cars have something other Japanese imports don't have ... zoom, zoom, zoom."
She'll say "You're so cheezy."
You say "Maybe we should take one out just to see what this zoom zoom thing is all about."
Once you get her in the car. Don't let her out until she's convinced she needs one. Tell her all the BS that Car & Driver and other mags like it better than the Z. Continually tell her all the good points but none of the bad points. If she comes up with a bad point, just acknowledge it or better yet turn in into positive then follow it up with more positive points. If she comes up with her own positive points about the RX-8 just agree with her and follow it up with a benefit. If she compares it to the Z and it is negative toward the RX-8 just shut-up and don't say anything. Pretty soon, she'll want an RX-8 over a Z.
Problem solved.
The other option is to just accept your woman has a faster car.
