It's scary thinking people could be driving on the interstate or anywhere around me on tires like that! That's almost as bad as driving drunk. Why would you put yourself and others at risk driving on tires that are ticking time bombs for a major blowout and a potentially serious accident? You might not have a car to turn in come September if you keep driving on those things!

Two things control where a car goes- the tires and the nut behind the wheel. Take either, add a little water and you have an accident waiting to happen. Do the rest of us a favor and don't wear your seat belt. Dead drivers don't live to kill again.

It sounds like you're talking about spots being higher and lower on the tread when running your hand around the outside of the tire (not across its width), that's CUPPING. I've had a car where the rear tires were cupping all over the tire due to crappy GM rear shocks being worn out. Tires weren't making proper contact w/the pavement after going over bumps.
Many of our Zs seem to suffer from feathering of the fronts or a combination of feathering w/cupping. Mine's doing the latter now at ~14.8K miles.

It looks to me that it was probably feathered historically, but anything that could possibly be feathered is now gone due to cupping having engulfed the entire tread pattern.
