Check page 3-10 of your manual. There is a hatch release under or close to the rear strut bar

thats for emergencies, hardly useful.

Unless they have changed it since 03, the key fob is the only way. There is no release button for use inside the cabin other than the emergency hidden pull cable. Yes it is a little stupid.

I think there must be some kind of safety so that doesn't work.

Yep, and I don't see any reason why you would want to pop the trunk unless there was someone already at the trunk who could press the button and open it themselves. Just make sure the car is unlocked and it should work just fine.

It comes up! Say your picking up your wife, kid, or friend and they want to throw their bags in the back. You either gotta use the FOB or get out and open up the trunk for them. Trying to explain where the little rubber thing is and having them use it with their hands full is not real useful. Most cars these days have a button in the glove box or elsewhere to pop the trunk from INSIDE the cabin. I usually just get out and open it for the person.

It's not a mini van, plus I make people hold on to their crap in the front seat.

No crap in my trunk, no sir , at least not without me loading it. People are careless and I don't want any scratches or dings if i can help it.

Hmm, maybe thats why nobody wants to go for a ride, to many rules. Oh well

Have you ever noticed when you let other people do something like close the door they have to slam the door like it was a huge caddy. I know it sounds ****, but to hear a little door that needs very little pull to close it, especially when the windows are open, being slammed shut makes me gringe
