Default Maxima Drivers?

Has anyone else had issues with driver's of current model Maximas trying to challenge you when you are driving your Z? Over the last several months I have had at least three Maxima drivers challenge or try to prove they are as fast as the Z. One wanted to race me from a stoplight in a 35mph zone. I just ignored him and let him go since the light is just before a school zone where the cops like to hang out.

Today I was out for a Sunday afternoon drive when I looked up in my rear view mirror and a white current model Maxima came flying up behind me. When I looked in my mirror I couldn't believe it but it was a man in his late 40s or early 50s with his wife. At the next light I turned right and accelarated briskly up to about 50 in a 45 zone. The guy came flying up behind me again. I pulled over into the other lane and he slowed down next to me and just rode in my blind spot for about one mile, whether I drove 50 or 40. Because of traffic in front of me I slowed down and then when the traffic merged into his lane he got behind me again. This time I downshifted to 3rd and got on it. He tried to keep up, but I made a left turn at the next light as he flew through the intersection going straight trying to catch up. I guess Maxima owners have to prove to themselves that their cars are almost as fast as a Z. Must be Z envy.

Funny you mention this
I had an 05 maxima pull up to next to me at an intersection wanting to race last night actually. I was with my girlfriend though, and I know how much she hates street racing. I just let it go and went about my business, although i would have loved to leave him in the dust.

Lol, I had a run-in with a new (still had temp tags) Maxima last week. Saw him weaving in and out of traffic behind me, and he stayed parked right on my *** once he caught up. He was actually pissing me off becuase he was following too close, so I gave him a quick downshift and put some distance between us. I stopped accelerating at about 85mph, but he eventually caught up and flew by me, ricer style!

I am not saying Maximas are slow. They are obviously quick cars since they have a version of the same engine the 350Z does and almost as much horsepower. I just don't understand the attitude. Almost like they would rather have had the Z, but got the Maxima instead and have to prove the car is worthy. In my mind they are two completely different cars, rear drive, two door, two seater vs front drive, four door, four/five seater.

If I was in the market for a four door car the Maxima and the Chrysler 300C would be at the top of my list. You can't beat the combination of versatility and performance for the price with either. I just need a vehicle that is 4 wheel drive and that I can tow with. That is why my daily driver is a 2004 Dodge Durango, Hemi powered of course.

Had my 02 for 3.5 years and I have NOT had one problem other than my wife curbing it the other day.

Still no door dings as well, knock on wood!

I traded my 02 Maxima for the Z and it was almost as quick as the Z in a straight line. Hit the curves and it would be over.

My wife drives a '00 with a 75 NOS shot and S03 shoes. As fast in a straight line as my stock Z. I will launch against just about anyone in her "sleeper" but mainly like to f*** with the ricers. It's not hate, just fun. She's letting me go all out on the Z, APS TT, forged engine re-build. She doesn't understand why I would do such a thing to a 4 month old car but seems to be ok with it.

Same thing happened to me, a guy in his 50's in the lane next to me, felt it ncessary to over accelerate to the next light to prove he had the power but I did'nt bite (race less 500 feet to the next light?!?) and did it again at the following light, its the same deal with G35's too they always have something to prove..go them

My daily driver before the Xterra was an '03 Maxima SE 6-speed. It was quite the sleeper, actually.

-I'm currently a Maxima owner, not that I would do this but I'm sure its a rush "trying" to race the Z

I get the same thing. Similarly, I also get a lot of G35 coupe and 4door. There are a lot of acura's lately now also.. 3.0 tl's.
