Default Just Got My New 05 Z, but whats up with the brakes?!?!

Hello everyone,

I'm a new member from michigan and I just picked up a brand new Pikes Peak White Touring Z a few days ago. It only has about 200 miles on it but it seems like after I drive for even the shortest amount of time my front wheels are black with brake dust. The rears have some but not as bad at the front. I had to wipe down the wheels twice on saturday and I only drove about 70 miles. This is the first new car so I'm not sure if this is normal when it's new or is it a problem that I need to fix? Do any of you guys have this problem and if so what did you do to fix it. Thank you and i'm glad to be a new member on this forum.

Adam

Its normal with the stock brake pads. There are low-dust options out there if it really bothers you.

i heard that people had issues with the fittment of hawk pads. did you guys have any problems?

how do these pads perform on the street? the dealer told me that the nismo pads might be a little too much for street use. is this true?

lol! i know exactly what you're talking about, when i brought the Z by work after the first weekend of having her a buddy of mine said "i like how you got the gunmetal gray wheels in the front and the chrome in the rear." - smart@***.

the dust is normal - your z is fine. if you want the nismo brake pads get them.

Don't know what he meant by that. Too much -- stopping? I've read some posts about the pads chewing up the rotors, blah blah blah. The pads are EXCELLENT. Very little dust, and I have some cheap after market drilled/slotted rotors and they are just fine. I dont track the car, mind you, at which point I would probably consider some other upgrades (like rotors, brake lines, etc.)

Adam... As other have said, this is normal and not limited to Nissan. You see the same behavior on most any Mercedes. Some companies make after market "dust" covers, but the dealers frown on this since it inhibits cooling. And if it gets a little bent it makes one heck of a racket!

Carbotech Bobcat pads put out very little dust. I had them on my stock brakes and now have them on my brembos. Fitment on stock pads were perfect.

I seem to recall $200 shipped. I bought them off eBay, but he sells them on his website.
