Default Early Brake Wear

I have a 2003 Touring with 12k miles on it. Daily driver, no performance driving. The brakes started squealing recently so I stopped by my local Nissan dealer to find out if they could do anything. Their response was that my front brakes were completely worn out, both pads AND rotors! Pads I can believe, maybe, but rotors? They told me they have to be replaced -- not turned -- replaced. Of course, not covered by warranty since they are a "wear item." I've tried contacting Nissan customer relations (with very little success at actually reaching a human being.) Anyone else have experience with this problem? I know Infiniti extended the G35 brake warranty to 3 years due to premature brake wear -- does Nissan do the same for us if we complain? Sure would be nice if the customer relations people ever returned phone calls.

I'm at 13k and I've noticed my pads are starting to wear pretty good, but I highly doubt the rotors have anything wrong with them. I'd take it to another dealership to see if they say the same thing. Since it is a wear item not usually covered under warranty maybe take it to a local shop you trust to get another opinion. I'd probably believe that the pads could need to be replaced, but not the rotors. I've heard of people needing to replace pads as early as 8k, so it's entirely possible.

Mine's doing the same thing too. I just hit the 14K mark and I noticed that my breaks squeals like a pig. My friend told me (who's a mechanic )that the sound might be coming off from the break dust that our factory pads are producing. A can of kleen break cleaner should do the job.

My front pads were gone at 12k and my rotors had to be resurfaced. I do mostly city driving.

Thats just the way Z brake pads are. Stock brake pads suck. Just get new pads. I went with Project Mu B-Force recently. Little pricey but best pads I used.
