remember when they started charging for air? well here in cali, at least, a law was passed that made them put a little button, usually on the side or back of the air machine, that would allow you to pump air without paying. i have found these buttons on prolly 50% of the machines thus far.

Yes, but running the A/C unit isn't what saves the gas. It's rolling the windows up that does it. I'd be *very* surprised if running the A/C (all other things being equal) actually increased gas mileage. That's just completely counterintuitive.

^Yeah, running the AC has never saved gas before. I don't know why it would start now.

You guys that dont believe the AC method of saving gas, do an experiment for your selves. You will be surprised. All the test that I have conducted had nothing to do with windows up or down because they were always up to begin with during testing. Find a nice long stretch of road with near flat surface , no hills. Turn you mpg gauge on. Drive with air off for 30min or so at 60-65 mph with cruise on. Do the exact same stretch or similar with same variables and switch AC on. Watch your mpg climb +2. Works every time.

Exactly. And they even went to the added trouble of placing a big sticker in the cabin with this information.

(why dont they make those electric too as well at the P/S pump heh)

thanx: for tip?

NEVER, and i repeat, never put what the max tire pressure says on a tire. this does not allow for expansion when hot and can cause a major malfunction of the tire. not a good thing if cruising at 70mph. even if you change the tire sizes, still only fill it to what the pressure says on the doorframe.

80deg day in central NC and tire pressue goes from 35 cold up to 40 on my stock 05.

Gas consumption: AC and windows closed beats no AC and windows open.

A/c works most efficently at highway speeds. Thats why you see the MPG go up.
A/C at city stop and go speeds is horrendus and will kill your MPG.

Unless Nissan has found a way around the Second Law of Thermodynamics, then the A/C will never increase your gas mileage. The AC takes energy to run. It takes it from the engine. To keep the same speed after turning on the AC, the engine will have to work harder and burn more fuel. More fuel means less gas mileage (at the same speed).

I find the window-up-less-air-resistance theory more believable than the A/C having anything to do with it.
