new member here...is 350z worth it? pros? cons?
I have an '03 Coupe and an '05 Roadster...no feathering issues whatsoever. I know other 350Z owners who had the tire feathering fixed and come back a second time. It doesn't happen on every 350Z. Sometimes you just luck out...
S2000 has horrible low end torque (Drive one...you'll see!)...It feels like a damn Civic at low speeds (very disappointing) and you have to rev the HELL out of it to get the 240 HP....Super tiny interior and trunk space is a joke (Think Miata!!...LOL).
The Subaru WRX is butt ugly IMO...Mechanically they're great cars and I REALLY want to like it, but the design really turns me off.
Please tell me you're NOT getting the Auto Tranny in the Z, if you buy it...If you don't know how to drive a MT...learn to do so before u get the Z!!

and youre right on the s2000...thats why they have 9k rpm hehe.
was it just me or when you guys test drove the S2K you felt like it was a girls car.
dont get me wrong i love the performance and styling but i felt like a chick.
The Z screams manhood IMO.
i love the comment about the STI looking like you should peel potatoes with it lol
Get the z but read up on it first.

Get whatever car you want. I'm looking at the s2k and 350z and have been far more impressed with the s2k. Driving the Z was meh, interior looked very spartan (not saying the s2k is much better, but it looks far cleaner). Only thing i was more impressed with by the 350z was the torque. The s2k just felt more raw and fun to drive. The gearbox on the 350z was subpar compared to the S. Either way, i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you purchase.
Since the original question is "Is the Z worth it?" I think the only possible answer is yes. There isn't another car that it really competes with at it's price point. At the $30 to $35k price, it is truly a bargain. All the other cars it really competes with are much more expensive.
The only problem that is really a serious one (ie not really fixable) is the feathering and not everyone gets that.
My Z is pretty much a stock Super Black Enthusiast and with a few extremely minor modifications and it never ceases to turn heads. You'd think it was a $50k or $60k car from the attention it gets.
So far I'm very happy with my purchase.

My wife and me got our 04 performance Z about 3-4 months ago and we've just been loving it ever since with absolutely zero regrets.
We got the silverstone and everything everyone is saying about turning heads is true, it's actually sort of an uncomfortable feeling for me that I'm still adjusting to. We're a bit weird and traded in our mini-van for the Z and we use it every day as a work car. We had it when there was still snow on the ground and the Z handled herself very well in it and surprised the bejeebus out of me. (I figured the rear-end would just get squirrly, but the VDC keeps her on the road just fine.
)
The Z has more room than you would think for groceries and is excellent for shopping, it keeps my wife from going too nuts 'cause she's limited by space a bit.
The only downside I have with my Z is the lack of a backseat, and with two kids that can be a hefty downside....but in practice it works out pretty good. My wife works and takes the Z whenever she does and I use our 98 Pathfinder SE (5-speed, of course.
) for getting the kids around and such. When my wife is home I always use the Z for any errand running and take the kids to friends/grandmas in it and such. (Never both at once, just when one has to go somewhere)
I really had no idea we were going to get a 350Z when we took me Quest in to get it appraised, and I still have trouble grasping the concept that we own such a fine car....but it's a joy to drive and behold and me and my wife STILL get a rush everytime we get behind the wheel.
Get what is best for you, but the Z is a great car that you would have a hard time going wrong with.

An 05 would be a good choice due the issues with the 03 and 04. Although I can't really say if it's been fixed or not. I have an 05 and so far so good, but I only have 1,500 miles on it. Only time will tell. But lets assume they fixed the feathering and tranny issue. One thing that bothers me is the infmouse 350Z blind spot. Once you've driven one you'll know what I'm talking about. The stock stereo is also disapointing...=( You'd think after spending over 30k, quality sound would be included. I don't have the Bose but I've heard nothing but disappointment there too. Other than that is an A+ all accross the board! I don't know what your other options are but test driving them will narrow it down. The Z is an awesome car in so many ways, do some browsing in this forum and you'll see. Good luck, and BTW I agree with Nitrouz - chics dig it!

hey having a z gets that job done..
I say if you like the looks of the sti, then go for it. Thats the one reason why everyone here in this forum ownes a Z. Cause of its performence and esp. the great looks and most hate the STI. Some cant stand the looks of the Subie. Also I havent heard a bad thing about the sti yet. Which is a hell of a lot more then i can say about the z with tire issues and tranny problems in earlier models.. BUY THE STI IF YOU LIKE IT..

Take it from me.... I test drove a STI, alright I really REALLY didn't like the car because of the following...
For the money,
1) The interior is no better then my explorer
2) If your a color coordinated then the colors do not match up at all. The stitching on them is red, does not flow with the color of the car.
3) The clutch.... feels like a damn civic clutch, way too loose for the car.
4) Although you have prob. heard that the ride is good, its VERY bumpy. The lady asked me how I liked the ride and I said it sucked, then totally changed the subject.
5) For the money + California Taxes you'd be better off just buying something else because this isn't worth the money in my eyes...
Compared to the Z the STI sucks badly. Maybe the performance is better in a STI but hey? It's got a turbo and AWD of course it better be faster!! Geez....
You slap a TT, supercharger, and maybe a few other mods you would over-kill a STI, EVO.... Stock Z'S can hit low 13's to mid 13's.. Don't believe me? You can find it on this forum...
I drive my Z, Bone stock at the time and I raced an EVO and twice I beat the guy, weather he sucked at driving still the point...
I would pick a Z anyday, and like said earlyer... You will get laid all day over those other cars

again i wasnt racing, i was speeding. if i was racing, a civic with i/h/e would be at least 2 cars behind me. i guess the cops were bored that night
if i was to get the sti, itd be in blue because its the only color that matches the black/blue interior. and yes, im a very color coordinated person lol
I'd say go with the Z. You are obviously looking for something with performance and they both have that. The Sti is definitely faster, but the Z looks way sportier and more luxurious. Although you can't beat an Evo or Sti you will beat most others. But like every Z owner will tell you, chics dig it!
