Default Pummeled a darting fox......front fascia is destroyed..@#$!

Driving home for Thanksgiving and I'm cruising at about 55-60 down a two lane rural highway when a freaking fox (from what I could tell it was at night) darts from the grassy shoulder to get a taste of my fascia.

Circled back to survey the damage, both of the animal I hit (at this point not positive of what it was) and of my car. Get back to the nearest town and light source (the longest 4 miles of my life)and discover that my fascia is cracked beyond repair (multiple pieces) as well as some other pieces in behind it.

Colecat=Livid

but what do you do......atleast it wasn't a deer. (Thank you God!) So, now I'm weighing my options as I know replacements parts are problaby 6-8 weeks away. My hope is this, I can find a shop that will bill my insurance for the cost of the stock fascia (not sure yet what it is) and then let me pay difference in the upgrade to the Nismo piece. I'm not a big fan of the Stillen single nostril piece and haven't seen anything else that I like. Sorry thing is I hear that the Nismo pieces are on backorder. So much for a clean Z for the holidays.

Anyway, thanks for listening. I'll keep ya'll posted. This sucks but I'm still smiling...

(Fighting the urge to order the whole Nismo kit)

by the way, anyone know a place I can get a stock fascia at a decent price, I plan on hollaring at "Parts Peddler" at Courtesy Nissan but I'm taking recomendation on sources for both the stock fascia and the Nismo one (which right now I believe is only available through JapanParts.com or Skiddazle garage late at night )

If I had known this would happen I would have gotten a quote while I was at Courtesy Tuesday evening and talking to Steve.

I wonder what it would run to have the Nostril on the stillen piece filled and prepped before painting. I could probably get that piece sooner......but it is borderline uncle ben's too me. It seems to be growing on me, minus the nostril. Damn, why does the Nismo piece have to be so far away.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I can't imagine driving a wounded Z for 4 months until Nismo comes around.

I am not sure how good this place is, but the ads say they sell all Nissan parts (via phone and internet) at wholesale:

That car is not totaled and you're still alive! You do have something to be thankful for today!!

Dang Josh, you sure you did pull a Genic and nail a tree or two?

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck and attraction to small animals. I think you should get the NISMO front end.

Michael.

Josh-
Sorry to hear. I'd be livid too - hell, I was livid when a stupid truck flung a rock onto my hood and caused a dent, I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was in your position. Do you have another car to drive while the Z is hurt? If so, I'd say wait for Nismo, you won't regret it later. Please keep us updated, and I'm very happy that you're okay. Sucks that this happened, sorry again.

What is it with the Dallas Z crew and the small animal atractions....?

Yeah, I'm leaning pretty hard towards Nismo, but the wait will kill me. As far as I know they are on backorder and a 3-4 month wait is rediculous. 3-4 weeks would be one thing and I would deffinatley do it if I knew a shop that would "work" with my insurance company. If I could, I would probably go ahead and do the side skirts too. I'm undecided on the rear wing. I'll have to wait to see Skidazzle's. Hopefully I can in the next few weeks.

putting wheels search on hold until see what kinda ends I'm gonna drop on this "repair"

any recomendations on a body shop that would work with me? I don't know if StreetWerks can since they are in bed with my insurance company as an "authorized service provider". It changes the process.

I feel for you, man. It sucks that your mod fund has to be eaten into this way because of an accident completely out of your control. I'm still reeling from having to pay for that damn wheel. I've stopped driving on the darker roads late at night because of the coyotes around Frisco. They would surely destroy the front of my car at 110 on the parkway.

I wouldn't worry so much about the nostril on the Stillen kit. If it's fully functional (and it does look to be depending upon how it seals with the intake on the back side) it won't be rice at all and will probably net you a few HP via the Ram Air.

Thanks Jill, that helps - not the way I wanted to start my holiday weekend but can't change it now. My other car, the Eclipse, was stolen (unrecovered)on October 16th so the Z had become my daily driver.

Haven't had much luck lately I guess......Oh well, atleast I'm forced to get the Nismo piece. Damn the luck....

The Z is still drivable and at speed will probably not be too noticable. I'll try to post some pics when I get back home, still down at my folks house. I'm just a little bummed that I waited so long for my car and now it isn't clean and flawless (or atleast close) anymore. Oh well, the first one is the hardest, right? I should be glad I got it out of the way and just stick my tongue out at everyone that hasn't.

Ya'll take care and have a wonderful holiday....enjoy the food, and enjoy the family.

most shops should work with you, even the authorized one. The insurance will figure out a damage amount and cut a check to you and the shop for that amount - your deductible. If the shop later finds additional damage, the insurance pays them the diff. If you want extras, you pay the difference. I once saved half of my $250 deductible by not getting the pinstripes (which I originally put on the car for $2.99) reinstalled by the shop. The insurance authorized the book rate of 250 for them.

I don't think parts are that hard to get... They are not that many parets out there but there are not that many cars either. I am sure someone can find you a new front facia... or maybe this is a good excuse to get the Nisimo one . Just talk to you dealer to see for sure. I broke a interior part on my car..nothing big but still annoying and my dealer told me a week or so to get it in. He had to put it under coustomer care as the part should not have broken and Nissan is going to replace it. but is was a small part that I did not expect to be avalaible yet so I am sure You can find a new facia in a reasonable amount to time... Good luck and be happy it was not any major damage that can't be easly repaired.

I've been vascilating as to what my "fund" was actually going to be for lately. All plans pointed towards a house, BUT, I was speaking with my buddy (very credible source) and he was telling that a 350Z owner in Dallas, Michael or Mark can't remember, was a Greddy dealer and has the TT kit coming for his car as soon as it is finalized. Get this......they are looking at straight bolt at roughly $5500. Now that is minus the intercooler and it's related piping, but to expect 450hp at the wheels. I'm skeptical until I hear it from Greddy, but that would be Monsterous and a killer deal. You figure $5500 kit, $2500 intercooler and piping. Total invesment with install on an Enthusiast Z would be 39k (excluding taxes) and you are walking pretty much everything on the highway...minus the pack of hellacious supras roaming around Dallas.

I'm kicking my options around.....leaning heavily towards Nismo. I had the designer of the suspension on the z in my car a few weeks back and we were discussing the Nismo S-tune kit. I'll tell you guys the story later once I get the pics as I know most ppl wouldn't believe me with out them. John Yukawa (father of the new z)was present as well. Very Cool! Remind me later on offline. I'm leary to post as I'm not sure what should be public domain yet. I don't want to burn any new friendships.

Later on .....I'll keep you posted.

josh,

you shouldve gotten a blue one...

i have a stock bumper cover WITH xpel on it. unfortunately, the blue would clash with your silverstone.

good luck with the search on a replacement...

i would email gware@japanparts.com if you are interested in the Nismo bumper.

oh yeah,
Wow, your eclipse was stolen? What year Eclipse was it? What is insurance doing about it? That's craziness! Sorry to hear about your horrible luck lately, maybe all this bad luck is building up to some good luck in the near future Have a happy thanksgiving and try to forget about the bad things and focus on the good.

I even thought about that last night....."Skidazzle has a stock fascia I could get sooner...." but once I concidered the cost to get it from you plus the prep and repaint I decided to just go aftermarket and live with the damage until I can get the other fascia in hand. Let me know when you recieve the NISMO kit (if you haven't yet), I'll swing out to Frisco (I'm just in Lewisville) and check it out.

I may give gware@japanparts.com a hollar and see what kind of time frame I'm looking at. If insurance company pays most of fascia I'll go ahead and order the skirts and pay the extra.

thanks for the offer.

Josh

Yeah, it was 97 turbo. I came home from work, luckily I drove the Z that day, and the Eclipse was gone. Insurance company took care of me since it wasn't recovered. I just finished with them on Tuesday. I hope all this is leading to somehting good........Unauthorized "Borrowing" of Car, Girlfriend becomes literal Girl Friend, Kamikaze Fox stikes 350......what next? I think I'm do for something really great. Perhaps I'll wake up tomorrow and with a knee-length Johnson?

It's all good in my hood....LOL It's the holidays and I'm not going to focus on it right now. I just want to get my options weighed and see where I can go. It's the best motivation for getting the car kitted anyways......when it looked good it was hard to justify. Now it is easy.

I hope you all have a great holiday season, whatever you do or do not celebrate and be careful out there. There are alot of freaks on and the road.....and lurking in the nearby grass.

Take care
-J

Get the house. You can run around nekkid all day and/or molest all the small animals you want w/o fearing neighbor voyeurs.

Man, Colecat! So sorry to hear of your unfortunate encounter. Glad to see you are making the best of the situation though. If it means anything, my vote is to go full steam ahead for the Nismo kit if that is what you want.

Have you thought of putting a nose-mask on as a temporary expedient until the fascia is fixed/replaced?

BTW: I loved SHIFT_Turkey (burb)!
