Another damaged Z story w/ pics
Only if you live in Georgia . . .
All the other states acknowledge that the agreement you have with the insurance company is merely contract law, which entitles you to simply have you car fixed. Now, if another motorist hit your vehicle and was directly responsible for the incident, you could claim diminished value on THEIR insurance policy since it falls under tort law. Tort law requires them to "make you whole again," which in this case would include diminished value.
Even if you have a legitimate diminished value claim brought upon by another motorist's actions, you still have to hire an appraiser to quantify the reduction in value to your vehicle, directly caused by this incident. Bottom Line: I recommend all owners take digital pics of their vehicles monthly. The more proof you have that the vehicle was immaculate prior to any accident, the better.
Most DOV appraisers will charge $200-300 for their services. They typically write a report, create a video documentary while its on the lift, and point out the clues that lead them to believe the vehicle was in an accident & to what extent it was damaged. Unfortunately, I had a drunk driver hit my Z and it caused minimal damage, but resulted in high dollar repairs. Basically, it was all cosmetic (rear quarter panel & rims), but now I have my VIN flagged for a minor accident . . . and it all happened while parked in front of my house.
Oh well, life goes on, no one was hurt, and it was repaired to pre-accident conditions. It just took my modding days and drained them a bit. I love my Z, but I need to get out of debt, get ahead in my financial position, and take a break from the modding scene. It's amazing how something out of your hands makes you want to sell your prized possession.

To add insult to injury, the likelihood that your insurance remains the same is low. Any claim to your insurance for an incident not involving another motorist appears as a "negative" on your policy (case-by-case review).
When I owned an Eclipse, I turned in a claim from a "pothole incident" only to have my insurance go up $20 per month for the next 3 years . . . All that for a minor claim of $1000 (I paid an additional $500--deductible--on top of the $1000).

I drove today on the 101 where the accident happened... that ****er was big! holy crap. It was a coyote, but my god he was huge! figured i get the godzilla of coyotes hitting my car... and from the looks of it (cant really tell cause i was driving on the freeway) but looks like his neck snapped, so he didnt have much pain, instant death.
But ya the insurance is taking forever to call back IntenseMotorsports... They called them on Weds, but then said they will call them back once intense looks at the car and quotes how much to fix. Well Intense did that late weds, and still no call back from the insurance. I guess i will give them a call tomorrow?
