Default GTO vs G35 (298hp) vs 330ci vs 05 Mustang GT

A G35 post, but figure you guys would be interested in it as well. Figure whatever the G does in the shoot-out the Z would do slightly better.....

Speed Channel is running a PR piece for Pontiac June 12 (Sunday) which stages the GTO against the G35 Cpe (298hp) vs 330ci vs Mustang GT.

While a PR stunt, the event is officially sanctioned and will use the same drivers for all 4 vehicles, so a decently fair competition will be had (less the promo $'s GM is putting towards the event!)

Obviously the GTO is going to mash the competition, but it should be interesting to see:

1) ...Real world performance numbers on the new 298 hp G35 Cpe (noone on the forum seems to know if it's faster or not (more hp / less torque).

2) ...The G35 most likely spanking the 330ci in all areas (I'd love to quiet the BMW forums..."330ci HP is underrated" ..."Nissan engines are overrated" ..."330ci has better handling" ...blah blah blah).

3) The 298 hp G35 vs the new 300 hp Mustang. I'm guessing the 'Stang will edge it out in acceleration but that it'll fall apart on the track.

Here's a quick write-up I found:

Hold onto your remote and buckle up. The new 400-hp Pontiac GTO and 303-hp Grand Prix GXP will test their race-proven V8 power against the world's best known names in an exclusive Speed Channel Event, conducted by Pro Formance and certified by the Sports Car Club of America.

The same track. The same drivers. The same tests. The results may surprise you as much as the competition.

Tune in on Sunday, June 12 after Watkins Glen.
And check back here to view the results and video

I don't think the Mustang GT will fall apart on the track. All the reviews I have read say the chassis is a LOT stiffer than the previous gen and handles really well. I think the GT will beat the G35 unfortunatly.

+1 I was thinking the same thing. Why not the new 350Z track?

Probably because Pontiac is sponsoring the event, and the "Track Z" would stir things up a bit more for the GTO. That's exactly what Pontiac PR guys don't want!

The credibility of this test will be about on the same level as the laundry detergent commercials that show you 'ours vs. leading brand' results.

I won't dispute that Pontiac has built some powerful machines but damn people get some sense of style. No matter what is under the hood, it still looks like a pontiac.

they chose the G b/c this is a matchup of 2+2s (save for the GXP)

The mustang in undertired(severely), or it would be putting a whooping on a lot of these cars.
.... thats not to say that the G isn't undertired as well.

+1 on the looks though kamz

If you can get someone willing to host the 100+ mb file, I may be able to help you out.

Pontiac invented the performance grill, hood scoops, and heads up display. They haven't been innovative since the Fiero.

mustang and G35 will bevery close(300hp @ 3400lbs). gto gets tops (3800lbs and 400hp) and the bimmer will trail with the grandprix in last due to drivetrain/suspension.
or i suck at guessing.

pontiac's new magazine ads are stupid

I didn't carefully read it, but it was comparing those cars and listing their hp, then of course lists 400hp for the GTO...

of course they fail to mention the GTO is like 400-900 lbs more than those other cars and handles like a pig

and btw, I laughed when I saw this

http://www.pontiac.com/gto/heritage_...eNum=1&source=

it's just funny - clicking on all those cars and then clicking on the 2004 one - lol it's like they just picked a random modern day car and called it a GTO
