Just out of curiousty have u looked at anyother of the cars in the same price range? Like what were u looking to buy when u got the car? Just looks? Or performance? My point is, did you even look at other cars like the Evo or STi, or something in the price the same range?

I know your post isn't directed at me, but since it's "just out of curiosity" I'll interject my experiences just for the hell of it.

As the member name implies, I own a 2000 Maxima, which I am about to sell to some guy, at which point I will be buying the Z touring. (Black/Orange or Black/Black, 3rd choice Silverstone/black)

I was looking for looks, performance, and fun. I hate the looks of the Evo and the STi, so I didn't even consider them. In fact, I didn't look at any other car. I told myself that if I didn't like the Z, I would keep the Maxima. I wanted a sports car...If I wanted a fast sedan, I would have put the Stillen SC on my Maxima instead of buying a new car. Getting the Z is really just going to be a fun splurge, which I hope lasts a few good years. If I ever need a "useful" car, I can always borrow my girlfriend's station wagon!

Ya i understand what ur saying. I would go test drive the Evo or STi and see how you like it just incase, so you can say, "I test drove it and i didnt like it" rather then, "I dont like the Evo or STi but i have never test driven it, but i still dont like it." No offense, not really directed towards you in general.
But that was how i was like when i first got the Z. I wanted looks and power, and at the time, i wasnt really thinking about anything else. Now i kinda regret that considering i might do a trade in or something. Just try to get peoples minds open.

I hear you... I did keep my mind open, and in my opinion there were no other cars in my price range that I liked. I considered the Acura RSX-S, but frankly it's just another accord to me. I decided it was either all or nothing with the Z. I love the Maxima...I would probably keep it around if I had a good place to park it, but since I have access to a number of other useful cars I am fine with my decision to have the Z be my only car.

No, honestly though, the STi just isn't for me. Doesn't fit my style in the slightest. Liking the way a car drives can only do so much for you, I know I wouldn't be satisfied with it. On the other hand, liking the way a car looks can only do so much for you as well. I went to drive the Mustang GT when I was shopping for the Maxima, it feels like a piece of **** driving it. As far as the Evo goes, I've sat in one, and I look like a big *** douche sitting in that car. The Z is for me.

I appreciate the message you're trying to get out though, definitely don't get too emotionally attached before you think through the situation! I've done my homework, now it's time to have some fun =3

So I'm 23 years old, and I figured this is the only time in my life that I'll be able to enjoy a pure *****-to-the-wall sports car (i.e. a ridiculous 2 seater sports car; threw out the sti and evo, both of which i find terribly ugly). I wanted a solid combo of handling and power (more power and handling, which threw out the miata/solstice). That left me with the s2000, the rx8, and the 350z. The s2000 is just TOOOO much sport car for me, given that it would be my ONLY car (i.e. I would have to make multiple trips to Costco), whereas with the z and the rx8, I could at least put a suitcase in there. Finally, I wanted on-demand torque, which kinda threw out the rx8 (I drove one, and it was a pain in the *** to overtake ppl on the freeway, whereas with the z, I dont even have to downshift).

Thats my reasoning anyhow...once I took my z for the test drive, I knew I had to have it

You can put a suitcase in the Z??? PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE! (This must require mods, right? ) Well seriously, it has very limited cargo space. But hey, as long as you know someone who has a car with a trunk, you're set, right?

There is plenty of room in the Z....just not for large suitcases. My son & I packed enough stuff to camp comfortably for a week.

Congrats, bkknight369. Hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of the car. There is an active group of Z owners in your area. I'd check out the Regional forums here at my350z.com and post your info there.

My '03 Track had been sitting a while (go figure) and the deeeeler was willing to deeeel. So, 10% off MSRP and it was mine.

Have a great time with the Z!

I test drove the STI before i bought my z and here are my thoughts about it:
1: As soon as i got into the car the interior quickly reminded me of a somewhat modified civic. For 32 g's c'mon now.

2: As i slowly pulled out onto a main street I floored it on first gear....the car has impressive power i cant deny. There's no doubt that an the sti can beat a Z from a stop position.

3: That big air scoop was wiggling all over the place and if your really short u might find yourself sitting on phone books. And that massive wing doesnt help with rear visibililty either. In fact i dont think it helps with anything.

4: They say this car is suppose to be a "rally car", but the suspension feels weak. I made a pretty quick left turn and boy was the body roll evident. The car just feels flimsy.

Summary: For 32g's your pretty much just paying for the engine and awd system IMO. For the same amount of money u can get a car with an equal balance of power, handling, and killer looks (Z). For the everyday drivers, sure the sti is a little faster, but does that 1 second or .7 seconds (whatever it is) really make a difference when you're going to the grocery store or commuting to work?

thx buddy.

its arround 1am here, and i just got back from an hour drive through Fall City...it took 30 min just to get there, but there is a 3 mile bit of road full of tight turns and twists...totally exilirating

Had the car for a week, and have almost 500 miles on it

I love my z!
