Default Motor Trend COTY Numbers on the Z

Just got my Motor Trend today, and it is the Car of the Year issue. Thought some of you might be interested in some of the stats on the Z:

0-60 5.72
1/4 14.02 @ 101.89
60-0 121*
skidpad .87
slalom 66.4

* strange high number, not a track model from the pics, but still high

The G35 coupe and sedan won top honors. Here are the G35C's numbers:

0-60 5.83
1/4 14.23 @ 99.40
60-0 112
skidpad .87
slalom 66.1

Best numbers I've seen on the coupe there. Three tenths better 0-60 than the other tests like C&D, etc. Only slightly less than a tenth slower 0-60 than the Z.

Interesting.

My mind is still not made up between the two. I'm still leaning Z, though

""so i cant see how the best they got was 5.7""

Easy

1.different drivers
2.different car
3.different model
4.higher temperature
5.humidity
6.altitude
7.break in/miles?
8.full tank of gas VS 1/4 tank
9.220 lb driver VS 150 lb
etc.....

there are many factors, the bottom line is that someone got a 5.3 with a PRODUCTION model. I always quote the FASTEST time out of all the mags for ANY car (b/c anybody can make a 360 modena do a 10 sec 0-60, but that doesn't mean it is a 10 sec car).

the good thing is that the G is very very close in speed, very impressive

BTW, what model is that, maybe a Base or Enthusiast??? is there any other way to tell??

another theory could be that, with such a LARGE test, I would doubt that they run the cars as much and try to get the absolute best time VS a test focused on 1 car. just a thought.

Most car magazine will average the best of X amount of runs. That makes good sense to me as it gives an overall sense of what's happening. Of course they can also edit out any erroneous(sp?) errors

You've got to be f**king shitting me. In the Sept 2002 issue, MOTORTREND ran the following in a 6MT Silverstone/Burnt Orange Touring... the HEAVIEST Z.

0-60 - 5.49s
1/4 mile - 13.95@102.25
60-0 - 115 ft.
600 ft. slalom - 67.8 mph

Thumbs down

I was a little exited when I saw the G35 (side profile) for the first time. Later, I saw a snap shot of the front end. It was no doubts then, the 350Z was the car for me over the G35.

The car in the pics was not a track, as it didn't have the spoiler or the Rays. I assume it was touring or lower.

As for the 0-60 times, as was said above, lots of factors from tire pressure to temperature to barometric pressures can affect that. As long as they were all tested on the same day pretty close together, I'm fine with that. On the other hand, that G35 had some nice numbers compared to everywhere else I've seen it. Kinda interesting the Z is slower, and the G35 is faster.

MT when they tested the car the first time I think got a 5.49 or something 0-60. 2 tenths on different days is conceivable to me.
