Default Totally Screwed and need help!!!

I read all the threads and tried to take the shift **** off to change the shift boot. I held the bottom of the control lever with a pair of water pliers and the squarish portion of the stock **** with the monkey wrench. I tried loosening the **** and all the sudden the whole control ever came out. Now I have the control lever (black) and the **** off the tranny and the shift boot still stuck in between. I'm not even worried about that, I'm just worried about my tranny. What should I do now? Is my tranny screwed? How would I put it back on? The inside of the control lever is hollow and doesn't look like I broke any welds or such.

sorry he made me luagh. In all seriousness I would take it to the dealership. Let's face it, they're prolly not going to believe you if you tell'em it just broke off while you were shifting. It seems like you want to get this out of your hair right?

But hopefully someone comes along who has the answer you seek. Good luck.

Your tranny is fine. Yesterday I had my car up on a lift and saw how the shifter connects to the tranny. The shifter is behind the tranny.

No problem.

i would also take it to the dealer.. just recently changed the shift **** to titanium.. u guys r right.. that factory **** is stuck there pretty tight.. but i used a real good pair of clamps to keep the shift lever from moving, n the **** eventually got loose.. hardest part was popping off the console piece without any scratches.. the titanium **** looks great - didnt like the finisher all that much thou

Default Shift Lever Problems

oops...well, most of the suggestions here are to take it to the dealer...take your new parts as well and pay da man to fix it. This brings to mind the importance of having a set of Factory Service Manuals. I have them on three other vehicles and this thread reminded me that it would be a good idea to have a set for the Z as well. So, while I am sorry for your troubles, HKS350Z, your mishap has helped me make an important decision.

oh yeah...good time to upgrade to a nice shift ****, too!

You're saying the whole shift lever came off??? Sheeeit man!

Now is the time to buy the Rogue or B&M short shifter and replace the whole assembly. Have a qualified mech do it if you're uncomfortable with doing it yourself. I replaced my stock ****, but didn't have any issues like this. Hope the tranny isn't damaged.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I got it fixed and yes, I had the factory service manual already. Just didn't come off how I planned it to. I ended up bringing the whole control lever along with the shift **** (since they were stuck together) to my work and used some heavy duty wrenches to break the locktight. The control lever slipped right back on the other parts of the shifter and now I have a new shift boot and nismo ****. After looking at everything, I don't see how people can possibly damage the tranny but who knows, not like my control lever was suppose to come apart.

i had the same problem as you. i think we are the only two people that this has happened too. i'm glad i'm not alone anymore. anyway, just like you, i eventually got the shifter off the control lever. someone along the process i put a small dent in the control lever at the base though so it was a b*tch to put back on, but once on it is now very tight. i doubt there is anything wrong with your tranny, since nothing has happened to mine since this occured, 5 months and like 4k miles ago. since your control lever slipped right on, does it not come off easily also? i'd be worried that while shifting hard/fast it might slip off the rest of the shifter or something.

What's up buddy, yea....I think it's just me and you that's been through this....To answer your question, I slipped the control lever back on and yea, it's on there now....I really doubt that it we were to shift hard/fast, it will come off, so no need to worry...The control lever sits pretty deep on the rest of the shaft so in reality, we would need to some how pull the control lever up for it to come off...Anyways, thanks for replying, now I know I'm not the "only" one out there.

I have the factory service CD. The instructions say "turn shifter **** counter clockwise"
Yea, right!! I will prob. ask the dealer to do it when I service the car. I want to put on that B Orange shifter boot that is being sold on this board. BTW he claims that they are leather. They are not.
