Heat gun is quicker but if you don't know how to use it correctly, you'll have some well done emblems
Just keep rubbing them, that will get them off. Oops, sorry, you meant your emblems. Heat gun could damage the paint. You just want to heat the adhesive so the hair dryer should do fine. Ever touch the car body after you've heated it with a hair dryer? Gets pretty damn hot.
What new emblems did you get?

Use 10lbs test fishing line to remove the hard emblem. Start at a corner of the emblem and work it back and forth to "cut" the hard plastic away from the spongey adhesive. Just remember your not trying to get all the adhesive off in this step.
Once the hard emblem is removed, use a product called Wipe Away to dissolve/remove the adhesive residue. Wipe Away is available at most autoparts stores like Autozone and is pretty strong stuff. Wear rubber gloves cause this stuff can burn your skin if it's not washed off pretty quickly.
Be sure to clean the area on the car after using Wipe Away. Also use some rubbing alcohol on the area before applying the new emblem. After it's all said and done, it would be a good idea to wax the area also since between the wipe away and the alcohol, any wax in the area would have been removed.

I'd say try the fishing line or (waxed) dental floss first. You may not even need to use a heat gun/dryer.
When I pulled my emblems I went with (waxed) dental floss only and this for the adhesive residue:

I've seen what heat guns can do and putting one close to my Z's paint is something I really don't care to do. Using fising-line/thread/floss along with an adhesive remover is safe and I've found it's a fairly quick process to do.
Wipe Away is basically an industrial version of the citrus based Goo Gone. Either work but Wipe Away is a little stronger and comes in a much larger bottle for not much more $$$.
