Default 2003 Track-Pack Edition (help, may buy soon)

So I found a car in Quebec, basically across the country. It's the top of the line model for the year 2003 - it came in Performance, Touring, and Track-Pack at the time. Track Pack came with brembo and special light weight alloy wheels.

I have a few questions though, and hope to get some quick replies:

1) The dealership said they just got it back from the repair shop because there were some misfirings and it cost about $1,000. Is this a serious problem with the engine, as in something that should raise a red flag? Does it point out that someone was abusing it? The car has 25K miles on it, should it have been misfiring at all at this point?

2) The list price in CAD in 2003 for the same model was $46,500 and it's selling for $34,000. About 27% reduction in price for a model 2 years old and 25K miles. Is that decent?

3) Any major issues with 2003 model? I read about feathering etc, and alignment issues. Can anyone point these out, anything I should look out for?

Basically I can either purchase this one now, or wait until next year and try to purchase brand new.

Thanks guys for any info you can provide...

I dont exactly know the conversions from CAD to american dinero, but I think that price is too high. I got the same exact vehicle that you are talking about with almost the same exact mileage (29K) and I paid 24K for mine. Keep an eyeball on E-bay. Some car dealerships post their vehicles on there and you can simply find the car, call them, and take a nice drive down to wherever it is and pick it up.

Did you get the Track Pack model? Does it have leather? I'm trying to confirm that, because I know its supposed to be performance enchanced, but I can't find out if it's leather... maybe it's something they took out for some reason - I doubt it but just want to confirm.

1) I have no idea... I bought extended warranty on mine so I hopefully wouldn't have to worry about that. In spring 2004 it cost me $900CAD for 5year/100,000kms

2) 25K miles is about average you'd expect on a daily driver vehicle. The price seems reasonable for Canada based on what I've seen on Canadatrader.com and the local trader mag. No scream'n deal tho.

3) Alignment/Tire Feathering has been a fairly common problem for 2003 models. I personally don't have any problems with that. There's a couple of TSBs out there (window streaking, weak tranny) but that's what warranty's for.

If I were you, I'd wait till next year and buy new. Then you know what the history of the car is and hopefully the "kinks" in the design have been worked out. Unfortunately the Track model is not available in Canada anymore. Better yet, wait till 2007 and get the Skyline!
