States requiring front plates, what do you do?
Just this morning I was at the coffee shop and a cop pulled in next to me. I watched him check the car out as he walked by including the lack of a front plate and he seemed to think nothing of it. He came in for coffee and didn't say anything.
The way I see it is if I get a ticket once a year or so it's worth leaving it off.

the "it just fell off story" will work if you seem sincere..worked for me once but the cop was really reluctant..but if the same cop catches you youre screwed
+10000 that cops in NJ give tickets for anything..they are so ****....cops in NY are so much cooler...they wont do anything to you unless you are really a moron

After getting my first one I picked up the licence plate bracket that screws into the tow hook. Lots of places sell it. Allows you to securely mount a front plate without any drilling. Though I still got 2 more fix it tickets as I take the plate off at the track and sometimes forget to put it back on afterwards

In ways yea, they are 'cool', I got into an accident, in my accord and there was a cop right there watching, I had to call 911 for a different set of cops to come down at take the report. Some guy literally rammed into my car, he actually turned into it. So yea I'd say he was nonchalant about it...
On the other hand, most NJ cops are **** as hell, I got pulled over for making a U-Turn in a dark parking lot once...
"What were you doing in there..."
"Making a U-Turn."
"Oh."
I'm in NY and got pulled over for no front plate. I told the cop I just put on a new bumper so its going on soon. The cop didnt give a **** and slapped me with a ticket. I mailed a pic of the plate on the front bumper. But I have to go to a hearing in July. What do they do in the hearing? Can I be dismissed from the fine? Now I always have the plate on the grill.
Weird. In CA a ticket for not having a front plate requires you to show proof of correction to an officer who them signs off on the ticket to be mailed in. Not sure why they would waste everyone's time with a hearing.
I had my front plate suction cupped on the windshield for a while. It holds the plate up really well, but it just attracts attention anyway, so I just took it off. But the suction cups I highly recommend if anyone really wants to have a front plate.
Here in Iowa the dealers already have the front bumper drilled and the plate installed before you even buy the car. Driving without a front plate here is a nearly an automatic ticket, so I just bought another "Z" license plate frame and live with it.
I'm in NJ as well...When I bought the Z, it comes with a nice looking black front license plate bracket that the plate fits onto.
I did have to drill 2 holes on the front, but the plastic is easy to drill thru ...Quite frankly, it doesn't look bad at all to me.
I used the plastic ties on the front at first, before I installed the plastic bracket, but it looked kinda weird IMO.
Cops in Southern, NJ are real ******** and they get bored in between their daily runs to Dunkin Donuts, so I try NOT to give them a reason to F*ck with me.
I love to see disabled cop cars on the road ...Makes me laugh like a MF!!

I have not had a front license plate on any of my cars going back 35 years here in California. I only do this because I don't like the appearance of the plate, particularly after someone manages to back into it. The plate gets mangled and usually does more damage to the bumper than just having pure bumper to bumper contact.
Many states do not require a front plate in the first place.
Right now we have 3 family drivers driving 4 cars without a front plate.
We have perhaps received 5 tickets over the years, sometimes along with another infraction sometimes just as a license plate ticket. I just pay the fix it ticket and move on.
Having said that, the frequency which people are being stopped for plate violations here in CA seems to be increasing as communities add photo radar to their revenue stratedgy.
