Default Digital Speedometer Accuracy

In the owner's manual, it says "The speed indicator in the trip computer indicates the reference speed. The actual speed indicated by the speedometer (combination meter) may differ from the one in the trip computer."

Can someone shed some light on this? I tried the search function.

Is the digital speedo accurate enough to use to judge my speed with OEM rims/tires? What is the "reference speed"?

If you compare the speeds with the analog one.. It's pretty damn close.

I guess I haven't really looked at them at the same time. The analog speedo is so inconveniently placed, I usually can't even see it ...

My guess is the digital speedo might be off if you get different sized wheels/tires...but by what %, I do not know.

the only inaccuracy i've noticed of the digital speedo is... when the car comes to a full stop it takes it an extra 3~4 seconds to reduce from 8km/h to 0km/h.

Well since i do alot of highway driving, i did a little testing, while i was cruising down the road at 80 (on the digital speedo) i set the cruise control and pulled out my gps, according to the gps, the digital meter is ~2mph fast and the analog is ~4mph fast

Could just be my car, but everyother Z i drove i noticed the analog and digital readings were different

The digital speedo is accurate enough to gauge your speed correctly, IMO.

I use the digital exclusively, since it's much easier to see, due to the pods being angled toward you.

Gives me MUCH more peace of mind when I see a cop or my radar goes "BEEP BEEP"! lol

on mine the digital one is accurate if you are driving normal but if you are racing it the digital one is behind your original speed it takes it a whie to catch up

Default Re. speedometer accuracy....

With every new car I get, I take it on the interstate, set the cruise at 60, and time myself against the mile markers. Sixty seconds between mile markers equals 60 m.p.h. I double check the odometer also. I started this practice back in the 80's when I got stopped for speeding in my new Chevy Celebrity. I saw the cop, set my cruise at 55 (the speed limit then) and passed him. He said I was doing 64 m.p.h.! Sure enough, I checked my speedo against the mile markers and it was reading right at 9 m.p.h. UNDER the actual speed! BTW, I got away with a warning.
Now you have me wondering about my digital speedometer.
