Default How many of you don't care that your Z has problems? (tire feathering)

Well I just found out that the 05's are feathering as well as the previous years, I figured they would though. This annoys me as I plan on getting a Z in the future, even if I have to go through tires constantly. I can't believe that it is happening to EVERY Z out there, or if it is some of you just don't care and love the car anyway?

Does this problem make you want to get a different car or is it worth keeping it? The way I see it, there are no other sports cars in recent production that are worth a damn (S2000 yes, but I don't like convertables), except the RX-7, and that's just as costly in repairs. Anyway what is your opinion on it?

Mine feathered, replaced them with Michelin Pilots at 12,000. These are fantastic tires.

I would buy the car again....even knowing about its problems. I really enjoy it that much. NO regrets.

I don't believe this is happening to EVERY Z out there like, and I have yet to hear a 05 Z is feathering, cause they are still too early to tell?

It's not too early, it's happened already to at least one 05 that I know of. JCN, have you had the pilots on long enough to see if they feather as fast as the bridgestones?

Oh my bad, i wasn't aware of that. I can't really say if mine feathers cuz it was totaled when it has only 7440 miles on the clock.

Still waiting for the insurance to send me the check...
I bought a Miata just to drive around now. I will probably hold on now, and get a 06 Z (Didn't drive a Z enough to enjoy it) or a 06 STi (Liked the new look)

3000 miles. No apparent feathering.

The stock tires were 245/45/18 rear and 225/45/18 front.

The Michelins are 275/40/18 rear and 245/40/18 front on 9.5" wide wheels. I swear the Z (now) handles and rides twice as good.

My 03 has some feathering but I'm at 23000 miles on OEM tires with some miles to go.

I would not let feathering stop me from buying a Zzzzz.

I had tire feathering, rattles/squeaks, grease streaks on the inside of the door windows, a click in the driver's side seat rail and an A/C problem...all within 8K miles.

None of the problems have re-surfaced although I think the front alignment problem may be returning.

But I would still buy the car!!!

I havent purchased my Z yet, waiting for the 06's.. but if they feather, or if I had to buy a used Z, the problems wouldnt bother me at all. If my tires end up feathering, I'm prepared to just get an after market or nismo suspension and be done with it. The Z's just too great of a car to pass up over such trivial things.

I have an 05 and so far so good. But it's waaaay too early to tell with my style of driving. I only have 2,700 but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I can tell you I've enjoyed all the times I've been behind the wheel of my Z. It's as if everyday is like the day I bought it . Come to think of it talking about it makes me wanna take it for a drive (I think I will).

Not all Z`s are developing tire feathering and it doen`t seem to matter if you have an 03 or an 05, though maybe to early to tell for the 05`s..I `am now approaching 10k on my 04, everything is cool got my fingers xed...

Same here...the feathering wasn't that bad in my case, and the dealership fixed it promptly without giving me any BS about it. No tire issues whatsoever since that time. If by some strange fluke it does come back, I wouldn't care....the Z is by far the most fun car I've ever owned and the many friendships I've forged with in the local Z community have been worth the cost of a little premature tire wear.

I have a 03, and I still have the feathering.. but I swap the tires left/right when it's around 12k miles, and they usually last around 20k miles..

the car has 47k miles so far..

I have an 03 touring and had to replace the fronts at 14k cause they were shot. got different rubber and since then regularly maintain them with alignments every 3-4 months as well as a swap at least once to twice a year. just past 40k miles on the odo and the tires are fine.

in my opinion the feathering is a small price to pay for a car that handles like this for such an affordable sticker price. all it does is put the responsibility in the owners lap to insure that he/she gets the max life out of the tires. you cant buy a car like this and expect that a set of tires will last past 30k miles. just doesnt happen.

if someone wants tire life, they need to buy a KIA or something like that.

I don't have the tire feathering problem. I think this is due to the Nismo S-Tune supension and the Goodyear tires that I have. I do however have the grease streaks on the windows and the I have to push the hatch release twice to get it open. Neither of which I have had fixed although there are TSBs for both. I also have had my Bose amp replaced and it is still a piece of crap even though it sounds better than it did before. However, those problems aside, I really enjoy the car and would buy it again.
