Default Legality question regarding side markers.

I read somewhere that side markers are legally supposed to reflect amber. Does anyone know if this is true? I currently have the white side finishers.

Also, what about the LED's on these side markers? Are they illegal and, if so, how is this enforced (ie. Is this something that is checked when you take your car in for inspection or is something the police could stop and ticket you for).

I am confused about this issue and would appreciate your insight.

Thanks.
Victor

Thanks. I also just read where Yuichi posted that the LED's light up in amber which is cool. I guess I'll have to remove my bumper again and send in my white finishers.

I know that the IL statutes require amber OR white. Any other color may be assumed to be illegal. I'm sure most states are like that.

Please check the FMVSS, but I will briefly answer your questoin.

The answer goes MUCH deeper then a simple yes or no. In short, amber , yellow, orange, and even OFFWHITE (in a sense) are legal for turnsignals. Im assuming you mean turnsignals and not "side markers"

Sidemarkers can be any color you want(please check on that before you take it as gospel), just the bulb can not be red or blue (simulating an officer). Back to the turnsignals......

The color of the bulb is what I am reffering to above. The lense can be whatever color you want it to be. They are only concerned with the photometric properties. The FMVSS specifies the physical SPECTRUM of acceptable light also. And acceptable angle of projected light in all directions.

Its wacked out, and not a single cop honestly understands it haha.

Sorry if i confused you guys.

they must light up as amber, but they can be white otherwise, this is the law ussually, but I am not in a position to say this is true for all states. some harder states like california and such might have stricter laws.
