Question Questions about Proper OIL PSI:

Upon cold startup it takes several minutes of easy driving to get the PSI into the normal range. At light throttle and low rpm (3K) I get around 90PSI when it's cold and creeps towards 120PSI if I put any sort of heavier throttle, even if the engine temp. reads normal. After maybe 5 minutes though it creeps to normal and only hits 90PSI during WOT. Is this normal? Does the high PSI hurt the engine. Any info would be great. thanks.

Default I noticed the same thing....

Everything was fine after about 5 min. But after the first oil change and going to Mobil 1 Syn. I have not noticed it as bad.

Your readings are fine. With cold oil you're always going to see a pressure around 90 psi in the beginning. As long as it goes down after warm-up it's ok and yours does.

I was wondering if anyone has some technical info. as far as what the PSI means, what a high or low PSI means, what does a high (like 120PSI) do to the engine if done at an extended amount of time? Thanks.

If the oil pressure is high like 120 psi for long periods of time and the engine was not designed for such pressures you might start blowing seals like rear main, valve cover etc.

Your operation sounds normal, I wouldn't worry about it. I recommend you do not do WOT until your oil warms up. You'll know its warm when it sits about 60ish in normal driving.

Oil pressure is high at startup because its thick and gummy. harder to pump it around the engine. as it gets warmer, it wil become more watery and easier to pump. Especially on cold days, it will be longer before it gets down to normal ranges,m thats why the recommend thinner oil for colder temps hence 5w40 for winter, 10w-40 for summer.
