Default Found my Z...is this a good deal.

I found an 03 Touring 6MT in black on black with 35K miles. The car needs to be washed for me to check the paint but other than that, only the center console cover (where the nav goes) is broke. The dealer said he would fix that and remove the dealer badging. He said he would certify the car and give me a bumper-to-bumper 5 year/70K warranty. I didn't hear any noises while driving and the tires were too new to notice any premature wear. Will a carfax tell me if any recalls or tsb's were fixed or is that dealer supplied? The dealer wants $25,500. I want to negotiate but I have been looking too long and don't want to miss out again. I was also trying avoid 03's but finding an 04 black on black 6MT with everything is getting very difficult. What do you guys think?

Also, the clutch was kind of grabby. I don't know if it was revved up too high but it seemed like it was almost slamming into gear.

I have an 03 performance and I absolutely love it. Never had a problem with tire feathering or anything with the car. It drives like brand new. I bought mine about 7 months ago and it had 16K miles on it and I got it for $26K. So, you should definitely be able to talk the dealership down a bit. I would say don't pay more than 23,500 or 24 or so, because they will probably still make a little bit and be willing to do the deal, but obviously that would save you some money. A car with that many miles isn't that great of a deal unless you can cut them down on price a bit. Good luck and I hope you get it!

I know I can get it cheaper but bumping the b-t-b warranty out to 70K is pretty sweet. I have to check if they can even do that because the dealership isn't too close to my house and I want to make sure another dealership will honor the warranty.

What do you have to worry about with the extended warranty? Not that your tires will be covered if you have feathering...but if you can just deal with that possibility then you should be fine.

Oh yeah, and don't take the dealer's word for anything. Writing beats words any and everytime. Tell him you want to see a work order written out on the dealership's dime to fix any problems. Or just don't take delivery of the vehicle until it is already fixed.

The price is OK, not the best...I like private party sales usually because they're almost always win-win. Plus, you can get a mechanic to inspect the vehicle you want to buy from a private party before buying... so for about $80-100, you will have your own 'certified' car. No warranty, true, but you can usually buy extended warranties -- just make sure they're not a scam. Some of the online ones are scams from what I've read.

I paid $24.5K for mine, but it's 5AT. It also has NAV, aero, mudflaps, carpets etc. It only had 10,800 miles on it when I got it.

Basic warranty is standard...and note the 5 year is from the year the car was made (2003), so warranty will expire either in 2008 or when you reach 70k. Whichever comes first. As far as price....seems high for a car with 35k on the odo. You can get an '05 brand new base brand for 2k more.

If you can get the car out the door for 21k-23k, it sounds reasonable.

Here is what Yahoo BB says:

Private Party Value: $21,160
Retail Value: $26,665
Mileage: 35,000
Condition: Good 1
Engine: V6 3.5 Liter
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual
Drive: RWD
Equipment: Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Power Door Locks, Power Steering, Power Windows, AM/FM Stereo, Cassette, Tilt Wheel, ABS (4-Wheel), Alloy Wheels, Multi Compact Disc, Leather, Bose Premium Sound, Dual Power Seats, Traction Control, Dual Front Air Bags

WOW!! That retail vs. private party from Yahoo is absolutely ridiculous! Must be run by the dealers. LOL!

TK2005:
35K miles is out of control. does it actually have NAV? Well, in any case, that's about $18k-$19k trade-in with such high miles. So I'd be looking at that car for maybe $21k without nav and an additional $500 w/NAV. When was the car's first in-service date? You might not get much more than 2 years out of that extended warranty if the car was originally sold in '02, so I wouldn't be doing backflips at getting that coverage. I'm not saying NOT to have the coverage, because I would want it, too, but don't let the dealer make you think its worth its weight in gold.

I would suggest to find one with less miles, and that price is kind of high. Try looking at other places and online, I'm sure you can find the right one for a better price.

I apprecaite it guys. I guess having been looking for so long to have actually found a black 6mt in Houston, I was wanting to make it sound like a good deal. If any of the Houston guys have a hook-up or see something in black with a 6spd, let me know.

The included warranty is a nice thing to get since the miles are so high. But I have to agree with the others that the price seems a tad steep given the mileage. A few $k less and it sounds fine.

Did you at least make a reasonable offer? You don't need to pass just because they are asking too much. If they don't want to come down to a more reasonable price, THEN, of course, you pass. Yes, I think they are about $4K too high, and that is a LONG way to come down, but there's no harm in trying.

The dealer just called me. I was looking at a 04 Blue Touring AT with 20k miles and he is asking 26k + TTL. I Told him he is going krzy i would never pay that much. The value on that car is 21500 trade in. So why would i pay suggested retail value. I told him i was eating and ill call you back later. I told him i rather buy a 05 NEW Enthu for around 28k with Tax.

What do yall think?

In 12/04 I bought a Z from a private party. All options, 2004 Touring with Nav and 100k extended warranty. lojack, 6mt, side airbags, aluminium sills etc....only driven 6800 miles. The lady showed me her car statement....she still owed just over $40k on it....i talked her down to $27,500 cash. What a deal for a 6 month old car!!!! She wanted out because her fiance ended up leaving her, and she had bought the car for him!!

an '04? auto? its definitely better than $21.5K. Not much better... but better. I'm thinking $22.5K trade-in .... so maybe $24K fair retail.

Went to kbb.com and for a 04 AT touring with 21k miles with Excellent condition it quoted $$21,400 Trade In value.

I want the car for 24k with Tax...The guy put it on Ebay for a buy it now at 27k and had the bid at 20k... I guess i am just going to have to wait.

That's odd. Well, I was giving more credit for it being an '04. According to Kelly, an '03 would only be $1K cheaper. That just doesn't make much sense at all.

Well, that just goes to show why I always say Kelly sucks.

If you want an accurate number, check out the REal-World Trade-In Values board on Edmunds. Dealer there named Terry is always willing to help out folks with true auction numbers on cars.
