It's not too hard on it. Remember, redline is a conservative setting by the manufacturer to avoid numerous engine failure claims. You can go a bit higher. Just don't do it all the time, dude. If you set your rpm setting on the mult-function gauge to 6700, the red light in your tach will start to blink at you just as you get to 6600 rpm. It can be used like a tach shift light.

I only have about 2500 but I've taken it to the red a few more times than I think I should have. Maybe 20-30 times.

you realize that you can change the point at which the shift light comes on?

Yup. A redline a day keeps the blues away.

Just make sure you've driven it around for a while before you push it. It wants to be nice and warm before you redline it.

Man.. You must be old, a girl, or an old girl. You've only taken your Z (race car) to red line less than 10 times in 2000 miles?! Come on man. I drove mine off the lot hiting red line on every shift all the way home. I've Autocrossed it (Legaly raced) SEVERAL times hitting nothing but redline at least a hundred times a day on those days. So no.. you're not being hard on it. In fact, you're car is probably pissed at you for not letting it go to someone who'd take advantage of a raced inspired vehicle. For example. I let my dad drive it a month and about 1500 miles after i had it. He's 54 years old and drove the damn thing like he was taking the kids to soccer practice! And after all that, he has the ***** to tell me "it's alright, but i like my crx better"!! Can you believe that crap!

My Z now has about 7500 miles on it and drives just as well or better than when i bought it. Course i change the oil every 2500 miles and after all race days. So in the opinion of this 25 year old... Maybe you should have bought the Maxima if you're too scared to drive the Z like she's begging you to do!!!!

Sorry if it seems like im ruffin' ya up a little bit, but it just bugs me when i pull up to someone in a sports car (like this old man that drives an STI in my town) to give them props and they just sit there. Looking straight ahead, hands are 10 and 2 on the wheel, stereo off, TCS on, car dirty as ****, lap dog in the back/trunk, and a pair of blue blockers on! Anyone feel me on this!!! AARRRGGGGGGGG!!!!

One more thing.. With a name like 350z 2nr, one would think that you live in the RED? Maybe 350zsoccermom is more your style?

I think that's the way to do it man. I have an 03 with 24K miles. I don't see any point in racing it around everywhere on my way to work. I go out on Friday and Saturday nights and run it in Indy against a bunch of people but just going to work (unless someone does anything aggressive or jumps me at a stop light) I don't run it (too) hard, . It's a fun car though and you should definitely take advantage of it. Enjoy it, just don't do stupid **** to it.
Later,
Fletch

Hey, hey, now. I resemble a good bit of that. Just because I drive most times with both hands on the wheel and the stereo off (which, by the way, is so I can listen to the sweet engine) and occassionally let it get dirty or have my dog in the back, doesn't mean I don't drive it hard. Oh, and if I'm looking straight ahead its because i'm either (a.) watching the light so i can dust the guy next to me when it turns green or (b.) trying not to make eye contact because i'm afraid of getting shot, carjacked, flipped off, or all the above.

Ok.. that's a good answer Q. That i can deal with. Having lived in L.A. i sorta know what that's like. My only thing is... Have fun with what you have guys! Don't be scared to give it to her hard and fast. Make her scream from time to time ya know? Like i said before, she was made to flat out eat anything you put in front of her. Like the old guy in blue blockers. Trust me, she'll purr like a 3000 pound ***** at the sight of some milk when you pull her back in the driveway after you just got done working her over.

Oh.. and i'm still talking about my 350z incase anyone got lost back there?

The comment about driving with both hands is backwards. I think the original poster (not the one I quoted) should attend a driving school.

You are supposed to hold the wheel with both hands opposite each other (at the 3 and 9 o'clock position ) and the arms very slightly bent at the elbow when doing serious, hard driving.
It is all about concentration so turn the stereo off also.

It's those peeps with one hand on the wheel driving fast and listening to thumpin rap that scare the heck out of me. Those I put in my rear view window for safety.

This Z is my fourth performance sports car and I drive it hard, have taken 3 performance driving schools over the years to keep up to date and am 48 years old.
You won't find me wrapped around a tree at the apex of a curve.
