Recessed Rear Turn Lights

I love everything about my Z, but the rear turn lights. Why are they recessed? Shouldnt they be flush with the bumper ? Does anyone else feel the same ?

I hope someone makes aftermarket ones that are flush.

I hated how they were white and showed the orange bulbs at angles. So I got overlays and smoked them out. It looks AWESOME on black. Sorry I don't have a pic onhand.
