I just had a ride in the 350Z in Boston, MA!! <Long>
I still can't believe it! There were two cars, the blue touring that was in Texas and a silver performance. It was a press release at the Automobile Museum in Brookline. There were about four Nissan guys, one of them is the one that drove the Z in the caravan. I was going up there with my girl (it's on a hill) to read a book and catch the sunset. I haven't been there in ages, and had no clue the Zs were there.
When I go up the hill and approach the entrance there is was, the blue Z. I had to do a double take, and could not believe my eyes. I mean a 350Z, in Massachusetts? I was not expecting to see the car until owners took their orders. I approached the rep and asked if I could k their orders. I literally jumped off my motorcycle in case they were putting it away. I asked one of the guys if I could take a peek, he said no problem. It was late (about 7:30pm) so there were only a couple of people around. The Blue looked awesome a this time of day, but then the silver performance showed up, WOW! The silver looked really nice under the sunset, and the 18 wheels make it look like it had a bit more substance.
At this point I was wondering what have I done today to deserve this. Two 350Zs for me to look at with only a few people around. One of the reps asked me if I knew they were there, I told him I had no clue, and that I was felling pretty lucky. So one of the guys gets in the touring, and I took a chance and just asked "So what does a guy need to do to get a ride?" He just got a grin on his face and said "hop in" Damn this car is sweet, it was the auto, but it was pretty quick, it rode pretty smooth over the bumps, but still felt better controlled then my 300ZX. The car reached 60 in an instant, and that engine sound, it was a lot better then I thought. I'm sure people will rev it up just to hear it. We came back after about 5 minutes, and the Silver was out too, this time someone actually got to drive it (he owns a Boxster). He came in and said the car was quite good, even when compared to his Porsche.
Ok long post but I've been following the return on this car since the beginning. I actually drove to Detroit in 2001 to see the concept, and again in 2002 to the pre-production car. But nothing compared to the experience I had today. A ride in a Z, it's almost here folks!
