Default That's it, I give up!!!

You win again Nissan.

This new Z will be my 3rd Nissan vehicle owned, well 4 if you count the $hit box old 'Datsun' PU I had 15 years ago LOL.

Got off work (second job) this morning and took a drive down to the Nissan dealer nearest me who has a fair number of Z's to look at here in the Bay Area (Petaluma CA). They're mostly just roadsters but it's close enough for me to drool over. To this day I have still never seen a red one on their lot, though I did see one in Fairfield or Vacaville. SICK! Actually a lot of the colors look nice (like the blue) but I always wanted the red sports car thing. If my truck of the last 8 years wasn't silver, I might have gone with a silver Z but they are everywhere and I'm sick of looking at silver. I do this ritual of going to the lot on Saturday mornings after work about once every other week. I walk around the lot at 6:30 in the morning and drool in private, with no worries of people shoving bussiness cards in my face and having to watch the other salespeople trying to impress each other with their golf swings:-P

After I left their lot I drove down the street to the Ford dealer a they had a nice looking Mustang, though it was just a 6 but it looked like a Cobra, in fact it had Cobra wheels too. Kinda neat, well for a 6 but.....

After I left the Ford dealer I realized despite the problems some guys have with their Z's, there is just no way I can buy anything else but a Z. I have actually refused offers from dealers for test drives because I don't want to drive something I don't quite have the cash for just yet. I will test drive it before I buy one of course but I would throw up if I drove it, then had to wait 3 months to own it.

I was originally planning on saving and going Z shopping in April '06. Then I realized that in April I will have pretty much no chance in hell (can I say hell? cuz I just did) of finding a new 2005 in the trim and color I want if any at all. I decided that I would much rather save about $3,000 and get a '05, instead of spending more for the '06 which has minimal changes that don't do a thing for me anyway. More money for mods:-D It's not that I don't like the 2006, I just like the idea of saving money on a car that I already love, more so than buying an '06 for more money which I am almost totally nuetral about in the looks dept. Off the record, I like the '05 front grill better anyway.

So I did some number crunching, soul searching and refiguring and now I will be shopping for a new 2005 in Mid October. Only 3 months away now, possibly sooner depending on what they will give me on my trade in, otherwise I will sell my truck myself after I buy the Z. I don't want to sell my truck first, in case there is some kind of problem with availability of the car.

What I sell the truck for will be used to pay for the initial Z mods. Mods rule!!! Intital mods will be about $4,500 then maybe next summer I will get the exhaust and leather seat covers.

If it turns out I do get a bad Z well I guess that's what warranties and lawyers are for.

Will be nice if I end up getting the deal I want and getting it in mid October cuz my B-day is in November. I can have my mid life crisis a few years early hehehe.

What I want is a red 6-speed base model for about $26,000 OTD or if they don't have any in red than will have to go with an Enthusiast for about $27,000-27,500 OTD hopefully. I can't afford to buy more than an Enthusiast and I don't want anything more than that. Sure the Track models Brembo's would be sweet but I'm not racing the thing anyway. Not sure about either model being had for those prices but I'm gonna give it my best shot. I think it is totally possible though, give or take about $500.

In March 2004 I bought a brand new 2003 Yamaha R1 for $9,700 OTD because it was a left over model and the '04 models were all new for that year, so they wanted to get rid of the '03's. My local dealer actually had 2 silver '03 R1's that she (yes a she) would have sold me one for $9,300 OTD but I wanted a blue one, so I had to buy out of town. I probably could have gotten the blue R1 for the same price if I started walking out the door but I was already getting a great deal, so I just paid the extra $400.

The retail for the R1's that year were about $10,300+TLR or so and I got mine OTD for about 500 under that and could have gotten it for even less if I wasn't picky about the color, so I'm figuring on a base model Z at $26,600 retail, I should be able to get it for about $26,000 OTD.

Hopefully they will have what I want in mid October.

Sorry for all of these lame a$$ smilly faces but I'm in a good mood now so deal with it:-D

Someday (soon) she will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.

Think that was from Wayne's World or something.

Oh yes, she will be mine.

27500 with enthusiast otd is very hard, especially if you want options put on it. I got mine OTD with full options for 30,500...

he goes to look at his cars early in the morning so no one can bother him.

Won't test drive the Z until he can buy it(October).

Wants a 2005 base red model for 26K OTD. or Enthusiast for 27.5K OTD if no base is found.

likes 05 better than 06 anyways....

looked at a mustang, nice but NO THANKS

Wants to mod the Z! (of course) and is very excited about getting his 3rd nissan.

Bought a 03 R1(from a girl) for great price cause the new models were in and figures he can do the same thing with the Z, hence his target 26 OTD with the Z....

has a silver truck he will sell, but not until after he has the Z.

he is very happy

Man you guys are lazy! Just read the damn thing, the guy is just so elated to be buying a Z.

Chad, I'm glad you've finally decided on the Z and not the Rustang. Post pics in three months! $26k OUT THE DOOR seems unrealistic. You have to factor in tax, tags and title. I'd say around 27k-28k for a base model OTD. Good luck.

Keep searching the 707 area dealer stock on their web sites or through Nissan's. Chances are you will have to order a Redline especially a base model. Factor that in if you want one in October.

There are a few Redlines here in Sonoma County. Join our group soon.

Ya I dunno man. I went back again today during daylight hours to check out the legroom again, the view thru the rear window and to see if I could find all 3 cup holders, which I did LOL. Oh yes, drool drool drool. The guy in Petaluma said he got his last allotment of 2005's 2 or 3 weeks ago. He said when what he has on his lot is gone, that's it for the '05's at least for his lot. So now I am thinking I probably won't be able to find a 2005 red base model even on October, if any color base model at all. Damn new cars smell soooooo damn neat, especially that leather.

I would probably have enough cash set aside to order a Z in the middle of September but I would guess that it would have to be a 2006? The only hope I have is that another dealer will have one someplace on their lot. If I have to end up buying an '06 there is not such a huge rush for me to buy one in the next 3 months. The whole thing was to try to get a '05 at a good price. Plus I could drive and own it sooner:-D

I want a 2005 red base model. If I can't find one I would be interested in a red 2005 Enthusiast depending on what they can do on the price. If I can't find either of those, then I will have to get a '06 base. I have a feeling they will be discounting all of their roadsters cuz they seem to have quite a few of them.

I've never ordered a car before. For those of you who have ordered a car before, how does it work anyway?

Is it like putting something on layaway?

Do ya just put your down payment down on it and when it arrives weeks or months later, it's yours and the loan payments begin at that time? Since there are no pics or details on the '06 from the dealer yet, if you order it and don't like it in person do you get all of your deposit back?

Thanks...

On a different note, I have some seats for sale in the classified section in here if anybodies interested.

Regarding deposits...Every dealer is different. Some dealers will tell you that it is refundable, and some will tell you it's non-refundable. Don't expect to deal on the price if you special order a Z (they know they've got you).

My recommendation would be to check Nissan's website: Nissanusa.com. Do the build and search option and be willing to go a little farther for the car you want. (I went to Long Beach, CA to get the exact car I wanted.) What I saved from not being able to deal on the price was way-y-y beyond what I would have paid if I bought the car in Hawaii.

Good luck! And good choice on color.

It's too late to order 05s so you may have to go out of town to get your perfect Z. If they don't have it now, they aren't getting any more. You might find more used ones coming and going but a new 05 is what you see in front of you. There aren't anymore new 05s coming in.

I disagree, I believe that you have THEM. Here is your argument for bringing down the price.

1. Never talk to the sales man, always go through the internet manager.
2. Offer them to make an easy $1000.00 (or so).
3. Inform them that you know that Nissan pays them factory holdback (roughly 3% of the invoice cost), and that you understand that by ordering a Z special order the dealer is making "easy money" because there is no risk involved by the dealer.

Normally a car will be ordered by bulk (3 Zs, 20 Altimas, 16 Muranos, blah blah). The car will sit on the lot and every month that goes by it costs the dealership, wages, electricity, the dude that dusts the car every day, the interest it pays the bank for the land the car sits on, blah blah. When you order a car, the car arrives and goes strait off of their lot which doesn't cost them a red cent.

I just got a dealer to agree to sell me a 2006 for $1000.00 profit, for a 2005 model that is roughly $300.00 dollars under invoice. This is why stealers...I mean dealers will sell you a car for invoice (and still make money).

PS: Chad68, I tried to make a long post, but nothing compares to your post.
Good luck,
-LamaZ

Yep that's what it looks like to me, no more '05's. I knew I shouldn't have bought that bike last year errrr. If I hadn't, I'd be in my car already. But in all fairness, when I bought the bike I had no intention of even buying a new car, that was an idea that came around later in the year.

So I'm going to stick more to my original plan and buy in Feb or March. First of Feb I should be able to go shopping, as long as my truck holds up LOL.

Since I want a brand new Z, I'm going to have to get an '06.

Unless the '06 Enthusiast comes with a ton more stuff than a base, I will just get a base model, unless I have to order my red base from Japan, then I would see about getting a red Enthusiast as long as it doesn't exceed $30,000 OTD.

$30,000 OTD is my limit on any car. If I could get an '06 Enthusiast with leather for 30G's OTD, that would be the $hit! Like I said a base is fine though, unless they don't have any red ones in the U.S.

The reason I would pay a little more and just get an Enthusiast, is cuz I don't want to wait 4 months for an overseas delivery unless that's the only choice. I mean how much would that suck to wait 3 or 4 months for your car when I have already saved and waited a year at the time of ordering it LOL.

I would imagine that some place in the U.S. in Feb. or March, should have a red '06 base or Enthussiast on a lot collecting dust. If not then I will have to order one or get another color:-( That would suck.

Waiting sucks

I need a hug puahahaha
