Cop flashed his lights we stopped.... I didn't say much I gave him my license, registration and insurance.... he came back later and let me go...... what a nice guy..... first time i got pulled over and only got off with a warning........... might be I was in Uniform... I couldn't afford any more ticket...... hihihihi

I've never gotten a warning in my life. I'm not impolite or cocky, but not once ever, has a cop let me go away with a warning. I even got a ticket for 7 over once.

Ive never been pulled over until I got my G35 last year. After my wreck, I got a Z and everything seems to be cool so far!

Having a yellow car doesn't help though, catches the attention of cops =p I think yellow is the #1 pulled over color then red....or maybe its in the opposite order, but yeah..

You lucked out tho thats for sure =p

Yesterday. And this was after the cop said: "You got to be kidding me." "I thought you were trying to run from me and I was going to call in air support." Coolest damn cop I've ever had pull me over.

I'm a cop and I constantly give warnings. Usually if I pull someone over for speeding or a tail light or something then I will give a warning unless they don't have registration, insurance, or ID. Now if you are showing your A#@ and then act like you did nothing wrong....sorry but I will ruin your day. I have gotten my fair share of tickets in the past as well...like most cops...and for the most part we don't want to be the cause of your raised insurance and the such. That is one of the reasons I like this board.....we all know sometimes we like to "drive" our cars but it seems this board is more mature in their attitude towards driving.

Three words: military ID card.

I got a ticket in Florida a few years ago and while I was re-assembling my wallet the cop saw my ID and asked if I was in the Army. I told him I used to be, but I'm now a DoD contractor (same IDs). He laughed and told me straight up, "You know most of us cops are former military. Don't ever forget to put your ID card on top of your driver's license." He'd already written the ticket at that point so there was nothing more he could do to help me out.

I've followed his advice ever since and haven't gotten a ticket since then.

I've only got a speeding ticket once (the rest warnings), and it could have been worst. I was caught going 115 in a 55 ! He was actually cool about it and told me it how dangerous it is (I was 17 at the time), then gave me a $100 citation and let me leave! My gf on the other hand got pulled over about 3 or 4 times with me in the car and she always gets warnings!

I got a ticket for public urination...

The cop "let me off" without giving me a ticket for "non-emergency stop in an emergency stopping only zone." He claims he forgot the penal code or something for that...

Still, the public urination was a misdemeanor, and I had to hire a lawyer so I didn't wind up getting a criminal record. The lawyer told me the judge got pissed off at the cop and threw out the case for tying up the court system.

Red face

One warning speeding - two warnings exhaust - one warning going through a yellow light.

Story Time:
I was going 140ish when my V1 went off strong. I got hot on the brakes and when I got to about 87MPH I saw a Camaro CHP very hard to identify coming opposite of me. I pulled over when he passed me just as he came across the median and spit a huge 'rooster-tail' all over the freeway.

First thing he asked was what radar detector I had. "I thought I saw 136MPH for a split second then it jumped to 113 then 89." I proudly brandished my V1 and he had a cool attitude. "I was expecting a chase it was relieving to see you pulled-over." To which I responded, "It wasn't my intention to endanger anyone's life over this I was just stretching it out for a bit. You and I both know I was speeding so I saved you the trouble and pulled-off.

He wrote me for 99MPH - which...
a) is not reckless
b) lower fee
c) one less point

The ticket was only $246

For the record the V1 reading was almost 3 miles!!!

Retired P.D. here. My criteria for a warning were: 1. The stop was for a simple traffic violation not anything stupid, i.e DUI, reckless driving, racing etc., 2. Driver had all the necessary papers, 3. acknowledged the violation, 4. treated me with respect that the office I respresented deserved and finally, 5. my gut feeling about the positive effect a warning will have on this person. I was never a traffic cop where my primary responsibility is traffice enforcement so I had a greater latitude in giving warnings. My attitude was why should I **** off an honest, tax paying citizen when there were so many real *** holes comitting violations in my city (a large CA city with a high crime rate).

got pulled over few weeks ago, spinning 1-3, cop caught up to me about 3 miles down the road, asked me for license and insurance, scrolling through my binder of car info i keep in my car, he saw my dyno sheet that i have in there. handed him the insurance and license and he asked me if i keep my dyno with me all the time. he shook his head and said by that i know you drive a fast car. haha, i said " yes sir" , he said slow it down and let me go.

That's exactly what this CHP officer did for me yesterday. 1) I passed the nystagmus test after admitting to having had some alcohol, 2) I had all the paperwork even though we only got to the DL, 3) I acknowledged the violation, said I was sorry and I agreed with him when he said I should know better, 4) treated him with respect, answered him truthfully and recognized his status as an officer and 5) told him I appreciated the warning.

Needless to say, I slowed down and don't intend to be doing much fast driving at night after a couple drinks anytime soon again. His warning is much more effective to me than the whole DUI process in that I'll be much more careful how I'm driving - with or without drinks.

This guy was a good cop in my book not just because he let me off with a warning but by the way he handled the whole vehicle stop, left me with a sense of appreciation of what he was doing and the feeling that I do need to slow down and be more careful, especially if I've had a drink or two. Fines, jail, trial, diversion or anything else relating to the process would not have done the same.
