Angry blew out 5th and 6th gears coming home...

ok this is more of a rant than an informative post. here's a little background. i have an 05 ppw enthusiast 6mt. at 3000 miles, 5th gear was grinding VERY badly in the first transmission. so, naturally, nissan knowing the commonality of this issue, replaced the transmission with no hassle. fast forward about 7 thousand miles, and the second transmission is grinding going in to 6, from any gear including 5th. i take it back to grubbs nissan (which i highly recommend staying away from) when i get it lowered to get an alignment performed. while its in the shop, i tell them to check out the transmission and i also have axle clicking in the back. well 4 hours later they come out and tell me, the grinding is normal, the tech can't "reproduce" the so call clicking, and the alignment is back in spec. i tell myself screw it, i'll drive around a while and do something about it when i have to. fast forward to tonight, 12,700 miles, im cruizing on the highway at 75 in 6th gear. i disengage the clutch, and try to downshift to 5th to pass a guy in the middle lane. as soon as i put the stick forward, the transmission sounds like a dying wookie! i swore chewbacca was in my hatch. i left the clutch in, and tried to put it back into 5th. all the sudden there was nothing there. i put it in 5th and put the clutch back out. now my engine freely revs! i was like WTF?! i pulled it back into 6th and same thing. now i can leave the clutch in and move through neutral and 5th and 6th gear. it all feels the same. so i drove for 20 miles in 4th gear on the highway. i don't know what the hell the deal is. i will be the first to admit, yes i drive the car harder than most people, i am 18. BUT i take damn good care of this car and i know for a fact that these problems are not just me. anyways, i thought you guys would like to hear about this. i'm taking it in to the dealership in the morning and having those b@stards get ANOTHER transmission for my baby.. but gah, tonight has sucked.

Do you rev match when you down shift? If not, maybe the synchros went bad, even though that doesn't seem likely with 5th and 6th gear.

I'm fairly new to the Z, but two faulty trannies seems a bit unlikely, no matter how hard you drive it. Personally, I'd look into some your driving habits that may be causing problems.

Good luck with getting it fixed though.....and don't forget paragraphs.

Yea, once it gets to 2 trannies, you really have to examine driving style. Im 18 myself and have learned that this cars one heck of a match for a younger guy, esp. when he's paying for it himself (like me). However..I really really hope Nissan gives you help, b/c it'll be hard paying for a new tranny yourself...BUT..on the other hand..eh..I dunno..3rd times the charm? lol

Well....Looks like you either need to change your driving habits soon, or plan to sell at 36,000 miles.

I'm not much older than you, just giving you a hard time! I've never had any trans problems, but I never really race around either. After reading all of the problems on this site, im afraid my Z will fall apart if I do!..only got 6 months or so worth of driving before warranty is up.

if i knew how to set up a poll, i would. Thread title: If you've had tranny problems, how old are you?
a) 16-30
b) 31-40
c) >40
i predict most would choose selection (a). that's my hypothesis. Would a mod set it up, pls?

17 here boys and the car runs great. Let's not lump everyone below 30, hell even 20 into the "reckless driver" category. Believe it or not, not all teenagers are immature street racers.

I'm not saying that the topic creator is a immature street racer, just so we get that cleared up before I accidently offend someone. But I don't quite agree with street racing, not after browsing the galleries of www.wreckedexotics.com
