Default why is the track model so heavy?

why is the track model so heavy?

I don't get it

the performance model which has like 30 more lbs of wheel weight weighs 8 lbs less

both have VDC

sure the track model has the aero package, but that can only be like 4 lbs at most

The brembos were weighed and are only like a few lbs more than the standard brakes

So what's the deal with the track model? what does it have on it the performance model doesn't? Why does it weigh more, when the lighter wheels you'd think would make the car weigh less

...that weigh about 1-2 lbs more than the standard rotors so that's like 6 lbs more

Do all Z have that giant wedge on the silencer ? It's obviously part of the airflow management.

its funny to me that the base weighs about 200lbs less than the other trim models. Shouldnt the track weigh less since weight loss on a track is where its at imo. HP is fine but id rather lose weight with the same power then gain power and keep the weight.

well the track model is 3225 lbs

the base is 3187 lbs, but the thing is the base model has the cast aluminum wheels. By going to forged wheels you'd lose 30-40 lbs

The base doesn't have an LSD, VDC, or xenon headlights so that helps it weigh less. Probably has less sound absorbing material/tar too

Majority of the wieght loss in the Base trim is the LSD and 17' wheels. And if the Base is 3187 and Track is 3225 that's only a difference of 38lbs...that doesn't sound right. I know LSD wieghs alot more than that. Wierd...

LSD I'd say weighs around 10-15 lbs

the 17inch wheels weigh about 6-7 lbs each more than the track rays

where is the weight added? Electronic stuff?

extra insulation?

Do the xenons weigh more than the base lights?

Yeah the ballast weighs more, by how much I dont know. But they have iron core transformers usually, so they weigh more.

ok so the xenons weigh more
the LSD weighs a little more
the brembos weigh a little more
VDC and other electronics weighs slightly more

However, the performance model has all of those things except the brembos, has heavier wheels, yet still weighs 8 lbs less
Why? What did they stick in the track model that we're not thinking of?

Because the performance is the best model! (Ok, so I have one and am a little biased, ).

I dont think performance model has the underbody diffusers and front and rear spoilers. This might be adding to the extra Track weight. Also the 300HP engine, is that a little heavier than 287HP one?

I don't think the new engine weighs much more, but the track model has always been around 3225 lbs regardless of engine.

I'm sure the aero kit adds about 5 lbs - can't be much more than that

Ok so in comparison to the performance model, the track model has:

aero kit +5 lbs?
brembos +6-7 lbs
rays wheels -25-26 lbs

= the track model should theoretically weigh about 14 lbs less than the performance model, or 22 lbs less than what the track model weighs

so somewhere there's around 22ish lbs of extra something that the track model has that the performance model doesn't. What would it be?

power heated seats comes in the touring model only

obviously those are heavy since that is the heaviest model

track model has manual seats and standard stereo

I do, do you have anything useful to add or just complain?

I want to know what nissan did to make it different

maybe it's something I can remove or some extra body stiffener I didn't know about

I've swapped my brakes to brembos. Didn't weigh them but they're A LOT heavier than the non-brembos. Don't forget the bigger rotors.

hmm well according to speedracer fromt this thread
https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-suspension/132292-lightest-brakes.html

stock base front caliper: 12.5lbs stoptech front caliper: 11.5lbs
stock base rear caliper: 6.5lbs stoptech rear caliper: 6.5lbs
stock base front rotor: 16lbs stoptech front rotor: 17.5lbs
stock base rear rotor: 12lbs stoptech rear rotor: 15lbs

total weight of stock base brake system: 94lbs
total weight of brembo brake system:107lbs
total weight of Stoptech brake system:101lbs

ok so
aero kit +5 lbs?
brembos +13 lbs
rays wheels -25-26 lbs

there's still 15 lbs unaccounted for that the track model has over the performance model

ok well the mystery is becoming less, but there's still 15 lbs or so of something added to the track model
