A couple of extra thousand for a car that hasn't been in a wreck would be worth it to me. I would pass.

I'd pass but sometimes they report frame extension bracket damage as frame damage. That's a whole different issue and not a big deal. I'd have the car inspected by an independent garage or body shop before buying it.

That does look vaguely like a repair that's done to some unibody cars. I checked my Z under the hatch and see nothing like that there. I would suspect that this repair covers a crack in the area where the body panels are joined. It's hard to tell from the pic exactly where under the hatch that is. Is it close to the lower body panel or up near the roof?

I just went out and checked mine again. No such area found on mine and I know mine hasn't been dinged. I've owned it since new in 2003. That looks like a repair with a sealant patch over it. I'd pass on that car, drdos and keep looking.

My $3.50 :

Pre-pay a mechanic you trust to inspect it. Tell the seller to take it there and tell him if it is given a clean bill of health, you will buy it. Put it in writing that you will pay the agreed upon price if you are happy with the price.

I can't find anything on mine that looks like your picture. My cars is silver and I don't have anything on the hatch painted black. It this on the inside of the hatch?Remember anything between this repair and the outside of the car had to be damaged to get to it. No one knows the value of a car better then those that sell them for a living. Is this a Nissan dealer that offers Certified cars.... I bet not.

Like the previous post said. Get it inspected.

I thought I updated this afternoon. I found it on the body not the hatch. Nice clean joint on my Z. How would this area get damaged without other quarter panel or hatch damage.
Yes, get it inspected.
