Default Regarding mark down of 2003 Z's in 2004

Do you guys think that Z's that are left over on lots (it will happen, IMO there's no demand for 30k Z's per year) when the 2004 models come around will be marked down below msrp?

For invoice?!? Come on. I doubt that very seriously! I bet you can't get the Z or any other comparable car for invoice in August. Ain't gonna happen.

hehehe, someone needs to learn how to negotiate. New model year cars arrive in late August and early September. Usually by August there are killer deals to be had. With 30K cars a year there is no way that MSRP pricing will last beyond the first half of '03.

With virtually little change in model years dont expect invoice (true invoice) pricing. Im convinced that the below MSRP would be available based on your dealers inventory at the time. just my .02

Have you seen the number of cars sold in the first 3.5 months. Theses numbers were only limited by the number available.

Aug: 1239 (Beginning Aug 19th, 13 days)
Sept: 2407
Oct: 2737
Nov: 3755

From now to August is 8 months.

Total sold as of Nov = 10,138

Total left = 30,000-10,138=19,862

Total number Nissan would have to sell to sell all the 2003 models
19,862 / 8 months = 2483 cars per month

Good luck with the selection in August.

most were preorder, and those were the number made, not the number sold. their very well could be 1000 Zs sitting around on lots, or on boats, unlikely but possible.

anyway, I think it will hit MSRP, a good haggler might get under, but I donno about invoice, thats about 3000 under MSRP. the only thing that is killing them is the **** hole economy, and the fact that so many people just bought new cars with the incentives the did 6months ago to jump start the market, they just took sales away from now.

might be wrong, but I thought sold meant they were shipped to a dealer, not nescesarrily bought by a consumer. the dealer does have to buy the car from nissan, then they sell it for a profit...

maybe Im mistaken.

I hope you all realize that not all of the 30,000 are coming to the US or Canada. Yes, a lot will arrive in this country, but not all. Besides, Nissan has already stated the 30,000 produced this year will drop to around 20,000 a year starting in 2004.

Oh, I'm quite aware of what MSRP vs invoice is. Hard to acurately predict the state of the market in August but I'm placing my bet now that it will be possible to buy at or near invoice in August or September. I'm not too sure that you'll see adds in the paper for Z's at invoice but someone with decent negotiating skills should not have much trouble getting a very good deal.

The Z mania will settle, competeing cars like the STI will be here later this year, EVO is also on the way. I don't mean any disrespect to those who have paid MSRP or over but we all know that being the first on the block is a short lived status. The Z is just a Nissan and it is not a low volume car for its type, it will be discounted and it won't take multiple model years before that happens.

Cool Marked down? - I don't think so!

I don't think there is going to be a big mark down. Nissan was
smart in building only enough to satisfy demands. A lot will
also depend on the "economy"(we're going to war) and
if folks lose their jobs, then the demand for this car may drop
and may be marked down. I don't think Nissan is building these
cars dime a dozen. These is also a limited demand for a car of
this type no matter how good it is.
Ultimately a lot depends on the satisfaction factor of people
who bought the first few thousands. Hopefully, there are
no major recalls or troubles. Any lemon will be punished to
extinction.

I can tell you that RIGHT NOW on the east coast you can get a higher margin Z (touring, track) for 1k off if you have any kind of negotiating skill.
