Would the REAL 350Z Fans Please Stand Up?
J, I take offence to your comments re "newbies". First off, your site is not the only source for information about the 350Z. Please get off your high horses. Just because certain members new to your site doesn't mean they are hateful morons
Some "newbies" might know more than even you about the 350Z. Your witless remark about the new members only fends off the new and future audience of this website. Besides that, I think you have done a fantastic job with this website. If I may dare to speak on behalf of the members, thanks for your time and energy in keeping this site informative and fun, and keep up with the good work.

If you want to compare the F bodies to the Z then compare them with the same size engines. It takes a V8 in both the Camaro and Firebird to have similar performance to the Z. Besides the Camaro and Firebird are history after 2002.
I agree, for the most part. I think people are overreacting, and obviously didn't understand what it was they were putting deposits down for in January. Nissan has beat it's original stated expectations of this car, and because of that, I'm ecstatic about this car. I can't wait to get mine! I'm not going to be doing any street racing, so I sure as hell won't know the difference between 3100 lbs. and 3400 lbs., or a couple tenths of a second time differential. I ordered this car because I wanted a sweet-looking, fast, and fun to drive ride, and the Z is absolutely going to deliver that for me.
FYI - the article on C&D's website got yanked. I wonder if they got in trouble?

u better watch for the board jay, this is the time when people start to mess around with us. i say if we, the old timers don't hold our anger then this board will easily be the next generation after zcar~

and again, the price is just worth it by only buying the appearance. Man, where can u find such a futuristic exterior car under 35,000? maybe even above 35,000~

For the most part, the members of this board, be it junior or senior, have been behaving quite well. I have been a lurker for a while and I'm quite impressed by the quality of some of the discussions on this board. Let's continue with this level of discussion, regardless of who is junior, who is senior. After all, that moniker is only relative to this site, and some junior members may be more knowledgeable than some senior ones.
I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. Although I wanted a sports car with great specs, I'm not buying the car to race it. My alternative was a Boxster S. I figured before making my pre order that I would be getting similar performance for $25+K less, AND without the maintenance, reliability, and insurance problems. It also looks just as good IMO.
I just know it will be a lot more fun than my other commute car, '97 MB E320.

Fellow Z-men!
Whatever other people say there's only one opinion or test drive that matters...yours (the Z buyer)
If at the time of delivery and test drive you decide you don't like the look, feel, power, smell, whatever...you cancel your order and get your deposit back.
Nobody and that includes the CD testers, NNA or this forum's members is holding a gun to anyone's head.
I for one don't care how heavy the car is (in an accident = more weigh means better chance of survivability), how much HP it's got (it'll still beat the crap out of my Accord).
I bought the car, coz i've never owned a "sports car" this was the most affordable (for the perfomance that Nissan said) and every time I show it to someone they go "WHOA" - that's why I ordered Sunset - no other car has anything like this color right now.
Sorry for the long post!

I am a newbie to this website but certainly not a newbie to loving the Z. When I left my first wife and met my second, I bought a new 1974 260Z and we loved that car! Filled it full of parts from Bob Sharpe Racing. Then I was in love with Bimmers (9 of them) for the next 28 years, until I read about the 350Z.
Despite everything that I've heard, I'm still excited about the 350Z but my second wife does look alittle worried

As for your post fatZo which I have quoted, I very much admire how you can take offense with something that someone has said, and at same time compliment that person. It is very admirable.
well first of all, i'm buy this car because i love the way it looks and the performance for the price. this is my first car, so i'm very exited, and i really don't give a damn about all the 0-60 or the 1/4 mile speed, cause i an't gonna race every other sports car i meet on the road, besides it depend on the driver to win the race. i just want to enjoy the driving experience, and weather its 300 hp or 260 hp, its enough for me.
second, i say let those who ***** and whine cancel their order, its better for us. At least there will be less Zs on the street. i don't want my z turn out like mustang or a miata, every corner i turn i see one of those.
(i'm not flaming anyone, i'm just expressing my opinion)

First off... FatZo, I didn't mean to offend you in the least. If you look at what I wrote:
>>Has anyone else noticed most of the posts where there is complaining and people freaking out, are from "newbies"?
It is not saying "newbies" are idiots or don't know the Z series, or the 350Z. It is stating a fact that the majority of the posts from people getting all cranky are from people that have just signed up. This makes them newbies to this site. I never said newbies to the Z series or the 350Z. I should have been more specific I guess.
It wasn't meant to apply to all newbies, it was a comment that many have agreed with me on. We've had an explosion of people in the last day since talk of the C & D article hit and many I suspect are filtering over from zcar.com, where raising cane often goes hand in hand with regular posts. (sadly)
We run a tight ship here, we don't allow people to start fights and far be it from me to break the rules. I am sorry if you took offense, it was not intended.

I would consider myself a real fan. After all, I've told just about everyone I know that I'm proud to be on the waiting list. However, I think people have different reasons for buying a Z and some Nissan may satisfy and others it may not. As I've stated, I think a true sports car should have the following (in order of merit):
1. A stiff chassis
2. Lightweight unsprung mass
3. Curb weight under 3000lbs (ideal) for 6 cylinder and 2500 for 4
4. LSD
5. Tuned with mild oversteer (rarely from the factory)
6. Good peak HP
7. Good mid-range torque
I'm not going to bother with style or reliability because these are too subjective.
Others may argue with the above list, but, in my opinion (and most racers) the above list will make for a better racecar and super quick, but safe, back road burner.
The Z has 1. 2. 4. 5. (within reach), 6. and 7. So yes, all in all it's a fine machine.
My only complaint is the curb weight. And from JmanZ's comments, things may be better than some of us would fear.
But lets not start a flame war or say "go buy another car you whiner " because it's not that simple.
I still feel good about the car. But, if the weight (regardless of the final number) becomes a factor in the car's performance then "yes" I will be disappointed, and "yes" I will feel Nissan missed a golden opportunity for a world class sports car that commanded respect from the other manufacturers and their fans.
Enough said.

I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up about the weight. Put the thing on the scales when you get it - until then, don't believe everything you read.
I feel bad for Nissan and all this flak they are taking for what will be one of the best cars they have made in a LONG time . . .

jeeeez....
I wake up this morning(6:30 CST) to watch world cup. So while i'm watching i come here to find out printed perfomance numbers are online.
12 hours later, the webpage is gone, and there are so many posts i can't keep up.
Does anyone know if the person who shold us the CD article works for CD or maybe the publishing company? I can't believe he got the mag so fast.

Plus, by making students or others utter those words, "under God", it is not in keeping with what the American forefathers deemed separation of church and state.
A quote from the Columbia University Press:
political doctrine that provides for the splitting of governmental functions into separate but equally important legislative, executive, and judicial areas. Largely modeled on the philosophy of Montesquieu, it aims to prevent tyranny and promote individual freedom by relying on a system of checks and balances. In the U.S., separation of powers is outlined in Articles I–III of the Constitution. The system has been somewhat weakened by the growing strength of the presidency.
But I do agree very much about everything have to be so sugar coated. It really is bad.
"Back in my day..."
We used to ***** about important things, like the antenna, and cupholders!
What's up with all these jerks complaining about a sports car underperforming their expectations?!
It is funny in a way, but then again everyone has their own things that are important to them. For all the complaining, this isn't even close the antenna shenanigans, and performance numbers are at least a bit more relevant...
P.S. BTW, "under God" wasn't even added until 1954. The founding fathers themselves recognized the separation of church and state.
