Not only should you save the steering wheel, but you should save the scan. It proves he was there, just in case there is authenticity questions. It definitely provides a conversation piece. If the cockpit is hot, or steering wheel in direct sunlight, your signature is going to fade. And if you do want to preserve the 'graph, avoid lights at the house, but you won't have anything to brag about.
I wasnt flaming the guy, I was making a strong point! rofl, I apoligized about being frank, but he needs to get that replaced ASAP. Who in there right mind would leave someting so valuable in a car that gets really hot inside, is constantly touched by hands, and has an explosive device underneath it! lol....take it out of the car now.
Man what an honor dude...I would like to keep it in the car too...but it really isnt the smart thing to do. You should have the wheel put in a frame of some sort with Mr K's pic underneath it, that would be something nice to have that im sure any one of us would love to have for ourselves.
atar350, I'm not taking it the wrong way. You're entitled to your opinions.
Frankly, the signature is far more relevant within the car. Otherwise it's no different than if I taken the steering wheel out of the car and asked him to sign it. In this case, he SAT in my car and signed it so its more appropriate to leave it as originally done.
The signature is in a location that I never have my hands. As for the medium used to do the autograph, it's not a marker but a sort of paint pen. I'm hoping it will be more durable.
I'm the kind of guy who actually likes to use the pleasures that I own. I drive my 350 year-round (even Solo2 it in the snow/ice) knowing full well it doesn't help the value, but I don't care because it's the way I enjoy it the most. Ditto for the autograph. I won't mind if it ages well along with the car (like a comfy set of jeans). Should it deteriorate too quickly though, I will have to take precautions.
Because of his status, I also had him autograph a 350Z ball cap along the brim. If might horrify some that I actually plan to wear it - only on special cruising days though.
There was a large line up when I first arrived. By the time I purchased a ball cap and got in line, it was then cut-off behind me so he could go to lunch. I asked one of the ladies if he was ok signing my cap and she said he'll sign anything. I then asked if he'd sign my car and she said yes. I waited a couple of minutes for him to finish and get ready for lunch. Then he was wheeled over to a 510 to sign and then I was told to drive my car over. The rest is history...
