Default importing 350z to canada?

Why is 350z so expensive in Canada?
I mean... the same performance model in states cost 31000 US whereas in canada it costs 37000 US even before heavy tax...
is there way to import it from states to canada? has anyone done it?
I know there is 20% tax on new vehicle imported from states... but thinking that I'll still have to pay 14% tax on new vehicle anyway, it seems worth trouble..

Are you sure you are comparing apples to apples. The base Z in Canada has HIDs, 18", Leather, Limited Slip etc.

Also, remember an American Z will have MPH on the Speedo.

I'm not sure about the 20%, but you won't be able to escape the 14% GST&PST by importing.

Canadian law states that an imported car must show KmH as the main markings not as secondary. Also like maxpowers said our base models have a lot of options added already in comparison to US models. Besides is it really worth it to get a lower model from the states, pay tax there, pay tax bringing it over, pay the fees at the border, pay for the inspections in canada, then convert perfectly good parts to the Canadian equivillant just to register it in Canada?

Cars are priced not by its cost but by how much consumers are willing to pay for them. Canada's car are generally more expensive than the u.s. even between provinces in Canada used car prices can vary by up to 20%. Importing won't always save you money because of all the added taxes. I know here in Montreal we have used car dealership that make a living by importing cars from U.S. and sell them here.

So check it out you might save a thousand or two.

Not too sure about that. Like I stayed in my previous post I know a used car dealership that sell American cars all in MPH as the main marking

Make sure you can get Nissan warranty service in Canada for a US car before importing. Let us know how you make out. Good luck.

I think one reason that the z is more expensive in canada is because the canadian market is small. I read that the mazda rx8 has sold 3000 since its release. I go up to vancouver every weekend. Canadian msrp on a performance is $46,000 and American msrp is $31,000. So after the conversion rate i believe you're paying $9,000 more for a canadian z. Unless you have cash for $31,000 plus tax i don't think you can get an american z because you won't be able to finance one.
