I only have a 2.5 mile commute to work, and I still average 20-23mpg in the city, and usually about 28mpg highway. If you want good gas mileage, you have to drive your car accordingly.

Average over the past 3000 miles is close to 26mph (25.7)... good mix of highway and town.

And I burn them off/run it to redline several times daily...

20.9 with some non-traffic freeway driving. (40% freeway, 60% city traffic)

The problem is if you go 80 or so on the freeway its like almost 3K rpm in 6th... My mom's Accord is like 2100 rpm at the same speed. T.T

I am only getting about 17mpg city and ~20mpg on freeway. However, I am attributing this to the break-in period as my car only has 400 miles on it. I believe once you open up the car's breathing and exhust, the milage should improve. Has on all of my cars in the past. Removing all of the smog controlling devices will help your car to get better gas milage.

If you're varying the throttle a lot, that'll really bite into your fuel economy. Stop and goes are especially problematic, because you're constantly upshifting, then up-revving, then coming to a stop at a light. Remember, inertia is king. Your car doesn't want to start moving if stopped, or stop moving if already moving. Same goes for the pistons in your engine.

I talked to the guy that started this thread on AIM yesterday. He only drives 5 miles to work round trip and he is on his first tank of gas since he bought it. His gas mileage numbers are definitely within what I would expect when not doing any driving at 55+ mph for long periods of time like most of us probably do.

I have to agree. When I first got the car, the gauge said I was getting 8.1mpg . After a tank or two, it read normally which I cross-checked with the old fashioned method. Don't know what that means, maybe it was still self-calibrating. I avg. around 20-21 mixed driving, and 28 on the freeway.

I go over 4k as often as I can and just love hitting 5k to 6k. MPG, who cares? If I cared about MPG, I would have bought a hybrid. What I care about is $/gal. Freaking oil companies and an administration that's not doing jack.

18 to 20 around town, 26 + - 2 on extended drives at constant speed.

In my case, as I'm sure it is with other Z owners, mileage is a function of right foot pressure on the accelerator: Higher pressure, lower mileage or Lower pressure, higher mileage.
