Reguarding Gas Milage..

Ok,
I was traveling from nashville tenn. this weekend and set the cruise on 74mph. Tire pressure is 35 fronts and 32 rear (cold). I use 93 octane fuel and the highway was fairly clear. I took this pic because I really couldn't believe that the mileage was so much higher than the the sticker. These cars are amazing. If you want performance, you got it. If you want economy, you got it. This is the perfect all around car (except for the feathering). I don't know of many cars that you can buy that can get 33mpg and run 160 mph if you want to!(stock)

Wow that's really impressive. I drove mine on the freeway only once so far..and did reset the guage for MPG..i think i was getting around 27 or so...i'd have to check my tire pressure, maybe thats why i wasn't getting 30+.

My gas mileage is really weird...
sometimes i will get really ****ty mileage cuz of the stop and go, around 15-16mpg... but other times i get like 18-19mpg... in from what i can tell, nearly the same traffic.
On the freeway, i've experienced everything from 25mpg to 31mpg (on a trip to San Diego, from LA... so it was quite a long trip)...
Its all over the place.

Interesting to note that those of us who are complaining about low gas mileage (I include myself) live in/near Los Angeles. City driving here is far different than city driving in Omaha or someplace, and you really can't do better than 17-19 mpg. I sometimes average about 13 or 14; it's the stop-and-go stuff on both streets and freeways, and it's only comparable in places like San Francisco, or Houston, or a few other places. Most city driving elsewhere includes some straight stretches where there isn't much stop-and-go.

I see your point. You could not drive the way we drive in Kentucky, in any of the larger cities of California. You would get run over!! Life is a little bit slower here. But you guys get all of the new tech long before we do. The air has to be different there too.

many people make the mistake of never reseting gas m counter if you dont it will hang low. hit it when your on the highway... i took a roadtrip for the first time this week have 3k miles I got 35 av. i was going 80 all day. and going up passes in colorado. couldnt beleive how good of milage i got.

the z seems to get its best miliage between 72-80 mph. on a recent trip to panama city from atlanta i got between 28.5 and 32 mpg depending on traffic, hills and flat ground. day to day i am around 20-22 for a 22 mile drive to work. most is highway but there is about 5 miles of backroads that kill the mileage.......i am happy to have a 3.5l v6 (making a ****load morepower) getting the same hiway as my old civic/gsr hybrid....

I took it to the dealer and asked if the meter could be broken as I average 12.4-12.7 mpg on the meter. The car has just 1500 miles on it so this last tank I'm going to do the math and see what the gas pump/miles since fill up math gives me.

i live in houston and its like a 104 degrees. so i have my AC on all the time. I mainly drive 30% highway and 70% city and i get 19 to 20 miles per gallon. when i mainly drive freeway i get 23 miles per gallon.

Going back to what the original post said... yes... your car should be most efficient @ or just over 2000 rpm while in higher gears (4th gear and up on MT). You need just enough power to keep your roll speed. there isn't enough power @ 1500 rpm to maintain speed so you have to kind of mash it, which uses more gas than driving in a lower gear, like say @ 41 mph, cruise in 5th vs go to 6th

2003 MT6 Touring, get about 22-23 MPG mixed (about 25 miles one way to work LA 101 freeway, I mean parking lot...) and maybe another 10 miles around city, so about 60 per day, and one day I get 21-23, if I drive like "granny", can go upto 24 MPG.

Apparently I was running my tires at 29 cold, geez. And I've been trying to shift earlier, around 2 or 2 1/2, so I guess I'm going to try to make a few adjustments to get myself up over 19 city/highway.
