Default Reguarding Gas Milage..

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes you get better gas milage when you drive your Z slightly higher up in the RPM range? Sometimes I will try to save gas by keeping it in the highest gear possible to keep the rpm's as low as possible (without bogging or putting too much load on the engine) thinking it will save me gas but then on another tank Ill just drive normal or even accelerate harder than usual and I will get about the same gas milage. Im not going by the gauge either, im using the good old # of miles driven divided by the # of gallons to fill the tank full. Its like the car just runs more efficiently around 2500-3000 rpm's and uses less gas than if you try to stay under 2k.

Keep your tire pressure good, at 35psi cold.

Low pressure kills gas mileage due to the excess drag.

Turn off the A/C unless it's scorching heat.

Shift at 3000rpm.

That's about as good as it will get.

(Unfortunately, I run lower pressure, leave A/C on all the time, shift at 4-6k usually...haha)

at 100mph in sixth gear, the z gets 20mpg! try it, i took a pic with my cell but you cant see the numbers

75mph in 6th gets better gas mileage than 65 ( at least for me, about 2-3mpg more)

is it possible that the best gas mileage is produced at the rpm that produces the highest hp?

i've kept it on cruise control at 72 mph all the way from los angeles to vegas and back on one tank, over 530 miles! So you can get some pretty good miles on the Z.

Which would mean that the 350Z gets better mileage if the average speed is 74 mph rather that 64 mph? Ummm...its possible, but I’d like to see some photos. Thanks.

city driving i get about 22mpg and highway i can get either 24 or 29, usely it sits at the 27 range on highway.

Example yesterday a 100 mile drive was 28 miles to the galon, then the same day i got 24miles going 15 miles to a diff town but i got 27 miles comeing back, go figure?

I also noticed when i got 28mpg it was 70 degree's as it got hotter i think i lost milage, i am now wondering how to make cold air come into my cars intake

29mpg? you are telling me you get close to 500 miles on a tank of gas? that's impossible.
The best I have gotten, all highway, was 24mpg. what's your driving style like?

I get close to 29 at 73MPH, I get like 22 at 100MPH. The way to do it is to reset the MPG guage after your cruise is already set and stay at that speed for a least a mile or 2.

I made it between Atlanta and Charlotte on a half a tank of gas once. I was getting about 28 mpg before I got home.

Though usually I'll get in the neighborhood of 23.X for mixed city and highway driving.

between 16-19mpg city. Have not driven long highway trips since the supercharger, so I don't know. While N/A, computer showed 28.8 with A/C. However, when I calc'ed $$$ spent and gas added vs. miles past, it was closer to 23mpg highway.

I'd venture to say our computer is not correct all the time, hence why people have various readings.

Cool. Try it and see what happens. As one member mentioned, tire pressure is important. I like 37 psi cold.

I live in indy and work in louisville ky..120 miles work to home and I get my best milage at 78-82 miles per hour about 32 miles per gallon, but the first time i slow down and stop and put my foot in it...that number really drops....tank to tank is 24-26
