Cut it out or place it over top.

Yep it is placed over the top normally. If you really want to remove it then the dremel tool or a cut off wheel makes quick work out of the plastic.

I had a billet grill installed on mine and the place that did the install used a dremmel to cut the plastic grill out. They made a little boo boo during the process and gouged the lower lip of the bumper pretty bad. The guy said that had never happened to him before. The place paid for getting the gouges fixed and repainted. Just be careful and take your time and it will look great.

I was wanting to go with the mesh looking grill (kinda looks like the foil on an electric shaver)...

Do these aftermarket grills look ok when installed over the existing black plastic?

Sounds like you're referring to the Streen Scene grill. Yeah, it looks just fine over the black plastic. I had some fitment issues when I first had mine and bent the ends in slightly to get it to look right.

Im actually looking into installing the Streen Scene grill on my Z also. Any info on installing and removing ( the stock plastic grill ) would be very helpful. Thanks

Actually I meant "Street Scene" grill. And you shouldn't have to alter the stock plastic grill to install it. It's made to fit over the stock plastic one.
