Evo is the better handling car, IMO. But you are comparing AWD vs. RWD, turbocharged vs. N/A, they are two very different cars that each have a fairly decent amount of power.
... for the record though, I thought the Z was more fun, so I bought it instead

On a race track, there was not much I could do to keep up with an STi.
Driver experience ? The other guy (a friend) might have had bit more practice on that track (Circuit St-Félicien) but over all, I have more skills and track time.
As far as driving enjoyement, that would be something else.

The EVO is definitely the better performer than the Z in stock trim but the Z is definitely the better looking car. I personally think the EVO looks cool with its race car looks but for most ppl its too over the top. So just pick whatever one you like...can't go wrong either way.

Well of course, when you have AWD, turbo, and all that crap stock, it's going to be faster! But it's a different animal, which is why I get mad when people do the Z v Evo v STi...b/c they are just different animals than the Z.
I drove an Evo and it was cool, but I couldn't get over the fact that it was a souped up Econobox sedan.

Can't do much against AWD !

I had the opportunity to race a 350Z in my EVO at California Speedway. Let me lay out the situation for you...
Me: Newly Licensed SCCA Driver in Stock EVO VIII race car (race car because it has to have all the safety equipment installed).
Other Driver: 20+ Year Veteran SCCA Driver in Modified 350Z (Also race car...this is the SCCA after all).
Day 1: I won the race, but not by much we traded positions several times during the course of the race.
Day 2: He won the race but once again we traded positions several times.
Conclusion: I think overall the EVO VIII is a better race car in the track sense. On the street it's WAY more subjective.

I took an Evo off the line, which surprised me at first. Then, I realized why. Magazine testing is different from real world driving. Magazine says 0-60 in low 5's for Evo, and 5.4 for Z. BUT - no Evo owner is gonna launch at 8K rpms to beat some guy on the street. However, plenty of Z owners will launch at 2K rpm's, and have the same outcome as launching at redline. We have torque, and no turbo lag to worry about. So on the street, the Z is faster. And in the end, who the hell cares about a few tenths anyways.. its really about what car your gonna get the looks/ladies in
