Default Increasing MPG...

@ $3.19 for 93 octane, and looking like its not going down anytime soon. And since selling my car would drive me to drink (more), I need some good ideas on increasing mileage.

Some that I thought of...
Intake
More air in the tires
Carry less crap in the car
Lighten my right foot
No more mods until gas goes back down a little

Any other ideas? Are their power mods like the intake that can actually improve mileage? Maybe I can lose a mod or two...

Just be glad you HAVE gas. I would kill for some gas right now. Ok, I wouldn't REALLY kill anyone (unlike some people in New Orleans), but gas is pretty hard to come by down here. I may have to start riding my bicycle to work soon.

you pretty much have it covered...

if you want to go more extreme..

only fill half way up (weight savings)
lots more air in tires (2 mpg im my case)
use smallest tire size that will fit heh (less rolling and wind resistance)
Maximize use of Cruise Control..(mpg)
Minimize use of A/C

Not mods but:
Don't "jack-rabbit" from stop lights/signs.
Go to neutral when coasting down hills or coming to a stop.
Reduce freeway speeds(you'd be surprise at the mpg difference between 55 & 65)

I also just changed to synthetic oil...hoping that will give me a 10th or two also.

Use the Z's onboard mpg readout to test some of these. It's actually kinda fun trying to get better and better mileage.

Keep in mind though...when grannies in their K-cars start passing your azz...then you know you've gone too far.

lol... this is rediculous... none of you have heard of the e-co system? basically a fuel vaporizer that increases mpg by 20%... might be somethin to look into. oh, and so far there has been no side affects like powerloss of any kind or any other problems. theres actually been a few power increases...

You don't by chance make a commission on every one of these that sells, do you Mr. Snake-oil salesman? I'm just messing with you, but seriously, if there were such a device that was so simple, don't you think the manufacturers would just put it on the cars to increase their advertised MPG ratings? What more vaporization can you get than a fuel injector, which is the only place fuel leaves the liquid state prior to burning.

We had some B.S. thing on our Montero that was supposed to "pre-break" the hydrocarbons in the fuel to allow for more efficient combustion....what a bunch of cr@p that was.

Someone dig up that ingenious invention on Ebay where you stick a block of wood under the gas pedal.

i know it sounds like a load of ****, but it really does work... its a brand new product, as far as i know, that we have here in vegas. i didnt think it worked, and i dont know nearly enough about cars to try to defend this so i wont, and all of us at our shops were skeptical so we put it on a few of our cars, and sure enough, it worked. one of the guys drives a honda civic which gets 28.5 mpg(highway im guessing), and after he put it on he was getting 36.5mpg. so it really does work, somehow... but ill try to find a website for it.

They seem to have some fairly credible refrences. We wont really know until someone on here puts one on though. They seem to offer a money back guarantee as well, although of course thats worth **** all if its a scam. Website is well designed enough to make me think theyre not going under anytime soon though.

lol... or you could walk... that works 2... but in triple digit temps like where i live, thats not a tempting option. yeah, its in the 100's in the morning here sometimes, but that will end with summer coming to an end soon.

Common misconception. The engine requires more gas to keep itself running in neutral than if you were to stay in gear and just lift your foot off the throttle.
