Default Question on Storage of the Z

Hey Guys,

I have an interesting problem. I just started a new job as a Pharmaceutical Rep. and will be getting a company car.

I live in a neighborhood where parking is kinda tight, so I am strongly considering a storage unit for the Z.

Any idea what size unit I will need ?? Also, what prices are you guys paying for a unit per month??

My other option is to park it at the parent's house (1/2 hour away) ....but I'd prefer NOT to, even though I'd be saving money.

I would get one about the size of a garage and they usually come free with your house.

Not an option....I live in a townhouse with no garage.

You may NOT be able to use a mini-storage unit for a car due to Fed regs on what can be stored in unit.

No idea on cost.

Is it possible to get the company to pay for the Z, and drive it as your company car? Otherwise, the Z will just sit and depreciate. And worse, you don't get to drive it.

Sorry that didn't answer your questions. I'd park it at the parents' and save the money towards buying the next house with a bigger garage. Besides, can you rent a place that's less than 1/2 hr away? If you have to rent, a small unit that fits the car w/ cover is fine. That way, you are not paying extra and nothing else will be stored with your car. Do you plan to keep it insured and licensed? and drive it occasionally? You may consider an electrical plug so you can put a battery maintenance charger on it.

I don't know of a federal law regulating where cars can be stored. I helped a friend find a storage garage for her car when she went abroad for a summer some years ago. ALL the places we called had units available. They didn't care what was stored in them and for how long.

That's NOT the way it works.....Pharmaceutical Companies lease their company vehicles, which are normally 4-door sedans or SUV's. They pay for maintenance, gas, and insurance on these vehicles as well.

Drug Reps normally have to carry drug samples and various sorts of promotional literature, etc. Hence, the need for a mid to large size car/SUV.

They would NEVER pay for the Z (NOT a suitable vehicle, job wise)....BUT the BEST thing is that they pay for the GAS of the company car, which in my case will be a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. So...I'll park the Z for the upcoming winter season and flip cars on weekends (and some week days) during the summer + SAVE A TON OF MONEY ON GAS!!

At least I'll have a Sports Sedan

Nice ride for a freebie! That beats the heck out of a Cavalier/Cobalt, Taurus, Camry or some other fleet-mobile!

Default Did you check google for “garage space rent nj?”

There are plenty of garage spaces for rent.

If your going to have to rent a garage, you might as well check the cost difference on a slightly larger one that allows you to work on it as well. I stored mine the first winter I had it before I bought my house, and found one 12' x 22'. it was deep enough to keep a work bench and shelves in the back and plenty wide to work on the brakes, swap wheels, etc. It was only twelve dollars more than a shallower one that would not allow the extra work room.

Racer if you do store it started up once in a while because whenever I put the Z away for a while it makes funny nasty sounds when you fire it up until everythign lubes for a few second.

Additional Question: I checked Public Storage online and they "suggest" a 10 x 20 size unit, the cheapest of which is $136.00 per month.

Can I get by with a 10 X 15 or a 10 x 10 size unit in order to save some money???

BTW....I won't be using the space to store anything else but the Z.

best bet is to drive to the storage unit and make sure you can drive it up over the lip to get in...you may need to use ramps..if I am not mistaken the 10x15 is about 6" too short (much to my suprise!)...10x20 is most likely what you need...be sure to check the entrance lip tho...good luck in your new job...are you going with Merck?
