Default Moonroof for 350Z

I've read a few threads on here regarding you guys installing the roofs into ya Z and I was hoping I can get all of ya together on one thread and tell us how your experience has been with the roofs. If you could, please list the manufacturer, and how long you've had it, and the types of problems you ran into with it, whether it be seasonal or permanent or temporary. Is the problem fixable? Anyone regret getting the roof put in? Anyone face a problem that they can't stand?

ThanX guys....

if you have pictures, please post them here too...

I was thinking about doing that long time ago, but just ended up getting engine parts instead... I was looking into Webasto sunroof I think model was stratos 300 (don't remember exactly)... I got quoted $900 for the parts+installation. Here is a link...

I know I've seen them done before but it's tough and expensive on the steep slope roof.

No, please NO. It completely destroys the slope of the roof and the good lines.

I'd definitely trade the coupe in for a roadster before spending a couple grand butchering the coupe.

My wife had one installed they day she bought her 2000 Non-Z. Power with recline/tilt and sun shade. They used factory buttons and fit and finish is excellent. After 5 years, no leaks or rattles.

I would say there are two negatives: 1) it will cost you if you want a high quality unit installed, 2) wind noise. The sunroof was much louder (closed) than my old e36 BMW.

Hey guys, that is my car and for those of you who like sunroofs, I cannot say enough about it. I have had it just over a year now with no problems whatsoever. My service manager here had one on his '03 PPW and I fell in love with it when I saw it. I had an '83 280zx which had T tops and several other cars with sunroofs in them from the factory. This one was installed as well as any factory job I have seen or had experience with. Unless it has changed, Webasto was the only sunroof made for the Z due to the slope of the car. It is a one piece unit with everything pre-wired etc. and it took about 2 hours to install [just thought I would keep you from having to go back to the post to read details]. There are those who don't like sunroofs but if you do, you will love this one. I have no noise issue at all. It sounds no different than having your window down. It has a timer on it where, if you park and forget to close it, it automatically closes within something like 2 minutes. It has a 10 warranty which told me alot about the quality. My installer told me if there were any problems within the 10 years, it would be replaced. Mine is the third one I have seen and all with no problems. You can probably do a search to see if anyone has had any problems with them but I haven't heard of any. Hope this helps those interested.

how would an aftermarket sunroof effect the resale value of a Z? somehow i think it would be negatively!

I also checked the Webasto website, they only have the Z sunroof for the 03 model, i am not sure how its different for later years

I've had a sunroof on my 2003 brickyard for about 2.5 years now. Pics and various updates over time on this link: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....hlight=sunroof

Best thing I could have done to the car! Especially since I live in SoCal...and I love Sun but not wind (like you would get in the roadster). It rattles a little, but then so does everything else in the car. You can't hear any rattles when open and the wind noise is minimal. I'm at 56,000 hard driven miles and it still works perfectly.

Mine is an '04 Touring. I don't know of any differences b/w the '03 and '04.

I've had mine for 2.5 years as well. It is still tight, no leaks, rattle-free and works just fine. Webasto does an outstanding job on their design. Most people think it is factory-installed. don't listen to the rumor-mongers. It is well worth it. BTW, my car hasn't fallen over yet with all that added weight up top!

I acutally don't get it. I understand getting a Targa cause it kinda keeps the roof line but with a convertible feel, but a moon roof? its not that big to really feel the difference, I would definately get a convertible instead.
