Default S2000 owner looking into 350Z

Hi, Im new to this site and im an 02S2K owner. Im thinking about getting a 350Z as my next purchase. My S2K Is pretty Reliable and has never given me any problems other than my battery going out on me. 350Z's looks great and i heard its way way faster than my S2000 because of its V6. Also i heard the handling is better on the 350Z so now im HOOKED! Can anyone tell me the Reliability of the 350Z? Reliability is what im looking for in a car. I tried to search but i couldnt find anything about it.

Going from the S2K to the Z is pretty much a lateral move. I only like the Z better because I think it looks better and I have Nissan in my blood. It is completely a driver's race as to which is faster/quicker. Style is in the eye of the beholder. You really can't beat Honda reliability but the Nissan is very close if you don't get a lemon. If you like the way your S2K looks better then don't bother, just mod your car.

+1. i used to own a prelude before me z (i'm not making the link that the prelude is in the same class as the s2k and the z), but if reliability is what you're looking for, you're already in the right make of car.

where did you hear that the 350 is sooo much better than the s2k anyways, just curious.

A Co-worker has one. bought it when it first came out. His is Blue and grey clothe. I sat in it once and i liked the gauges inside and stuff. I never have driven his because he dont let anyone drive his car. We talk about cars all day and he brags alot about his 350Z. He sounds almost like saleman lol.

Yeah, you better test drive a Z before you make the leap. They are completely different cars.

The Zzzz has a wider power band & more low end grunt than the 2000. And, of course, it looks much nicer!

You should go drive one to be sure its what you want.

As for reliability the only consistant issue has been feathering. I have a 2003 and have not had a single issue other than minor feathering. The Zzz gets high marks from Consumer Reports if that means anything to you. I also understand the Zzzz engine, used on several models, has won several awards.

I just spoke to my Co-worker and i asked him about reliability and problems. He said his car had tons of it! He said he had to change his transmission a few times, seat rocks left and right, and his tires wear out wierd. I think its the way he drives it, it cant be that bad can it?

TURNCOAT! Just buy an 05. All early production cars have problems. I have an 05..no problems. You should def. test drive both. If you like the fluid like shifts of your s2k you'll hate the Z. If you hate the low end lack of torque on ur S2k, you'll love the Z. In the end its really a choice you make. They, IMO, are very similar in terms of performance stock, tipped toward the S2k for autoX, toward the Z for street racing. Mods can change it all though.

No, it really can be that bad for 03 models...
I have had the Tranny and Clutch replaced, two front tires, emblems, shift ****, rear axle hubs and the seats are wearing out at 30k miles, seat rocks back and forth, cd player replaced, window grease streaks... that's it I guess. all under warranty though,

just annoying, But I absolutely love the car and don't care : )

oh wait, except the seat rocking and wearing thing.

a) they say the seat wear is not covered
b) they say they only cover the price of the wasers to fix the rocking problem, but not the labor (90+)

Default Interesting that you would mention reliability...

and sports car. Reliable means Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Reliability above from owners compiled by Consumer Reports.

Love the S2K... but needed something that could carry my golf clubs. I think the S2K has a slight advantage in the corners and the Z on the straights (stock vs. stock).

Early Zs had problems. I have a 03 and have been fortunate to have none. To stay safe, I'd get an 05 or newer.

There’s always the story about the guy down the street with a Chevrolet pick-up with 200,000 miles, and he changed the oil 4 times. The car has never been in the shop. I don’t consider anecdotal evidence valid.

Just adding my .02 in here, but some of the facts you stated are true, and some are not. It's true that the Z is faster than the S2000 by a good amount in the straight. But on the track, such as Nurburgring for example, I wouldn't have much doubt that the S2000 will destroy the Z. The handling on the Z is awesome, but the handling on the S2000 is literally unbelievable. I've driven both, and I'm already a soon-to-be 2006 Z owner, just waiting for them to be on the lot before I buy. If both cars were the same price though, I think I would buy an S2000.

Nurburgring is a horriable example of "normal" track ability b/c its go a little bit of everything. Also depending on what the top speed of the s2k is (I have no idea) I have a feeling the Z would have a good chance of beating it since it is considered a high speed track. On a normal or short track the s2k would beat the Z I agree.

As far as moving from the s2k to the Z I don't think the handling is better. There is more speed and a little more torque and I personally think the Z is much easier to drive since you don't rev to 9k but that is one of the "fun" things that most s2k drivers love. Also if you are planning on getting another roadster the Z roadster is pretty expensive. You should test drive a few Z's and see what you think. After you do that you will know what the right thing for you to do is.

Sup leezard, I think I know you from hardforums right? I love both cars but I bought the 350z because its a bit bigger, quite a bit more torque, and cheaper. The s2k will be a bit easier to throw around turns stock, but the z is a well balanced car and with a few mods can handle like its on rails. As far as mod potential goes the z is very very hard to beat. You get a great suspension, a torquey v6, and a body with very little roll for under 28k(base). I would probably avoid the 03 model if possible, the first year had some bugs.
