My back is killing me...
My lower back KILLS me if I drive the Z for more than an hour or so. I've tried adjusting the seats to no avail.
The only thing I have found so far that works is to take a 20oz bottle of water and put it behind my back.
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions??

Guess I'll give it a shot. Do they strap to the seat back? Do they fit the seat? Cost?

You can get lumbar put in the seat if you want. It isn't too expensive either. It's an inflatable bag thingy that they put inside the seat then there's a little bulb that you pump to inflate it. I'm thinking about getting them soon because I have the same problem you do. It's starting to take the fun out of driving.

I don't think the dealership usually does them. Any place that makes seatcovers or re-upholsters seats should be able to do it. I suppose some dealerships *could* do it but I wouldn't trust them to. An upholstry place would probably do a much better job though since they specialize in seats and such. Hell, if you really wanted to I'm sure you could do it yourself. I haven't looked inside but the back of the seats zips open. Maybe you could dig through it to put 'em in yourself.

sounds like you have a disc bulge.
i use a small, round pillow in the small of my back, but even a rolled towel will work.
there's a good book called "Treat your own back" by Robin Mckenzie. teaches you how to manage your back. he also sells the pillow i use.
also, make sure your seat is low in the front.

I'll have to get the book, thanks for the heads up. I've tried a small pillow, but I think it was slightly too big.
Cruz - I've done reupholstery before. Where can I get the thing you are talking about??

you speak of a problem that i see a lot no matter what the make of the car. i am a physical therapist and deal with this kind of issue on a daily basis with my patients. the rolls and such that have been mentioned here are all very good but do cost a few bucks and are really not that "individualized". different peoples backs are different. i know that sounds stupid but its true. the best "lumbar roll" that i have ever used costs 50 cents and is perfectly individualized.
go to the local dollar store and find a small beach ball, like a kids toy. not the full size but the one that when blown up is still just smaller then a soccer ball. this time of year you should be able to find one cheap, clearance. put just barely enough air in it so that when you put it behind your back it "molds" itself to what your back needs. and when not in use, deflate it all the way and shove in one of those compartments behind you.
and oh yeah, cant let you go without saying, get into a physical therapy clinic around you. you would be surprised what they can do.
good luck.

The lumbar support I use was purchased from an airplane/pilot supply house. It goes behind the seat cover & has the little rubber thingy-me-bob to increase/decrease the amount of air.

Here's the inflateable Brickyard mentioned. I'm going to try it myself.

I put an old towel rolled up inside the seat with a cardboard behind it. If you open the zipper, you'll see why the cardboard is required. It is very easy to do. Try a few towels outside 1st to determine which is the best size for you. I plan to do the passenger side too one of these days.

I worked hard to get the seating position comfortable. I found that I like the seat back in almost a full upright position.
Back problems may relate to areas other than the back. One area is thigh support. For a several hour trip, I like a rolled-up towel on the front edge of the seat under my legs. Best of luck.
