I would like to start a Z33/G35 tech site, opinions...
Hello all, I would first like to introduct myself (corny, but has to be done)
My name is Rob and I am from New Jersey and I am picking up my Ultra Yellow 6MT Enthusiast within a week. I am an avid PHP programmer and have been programming for the last eight years. I own and developed ClubScion.com and have assisted Mark West, owner of Zilvia.net, for a number of years.
Being that I will soon own my dream car, I would like to give something to the community. A peace offering, if you will, to those who will surely flame me and screw with my mind...
I would like to start a site devoted to the technical aspect of the Z33 and G35c. What I would like to do is have a centralized location for modification write-ups, product installations, technical references and the likes. I am, in no way, trying to steal the light from any Z forum, but offering an easy reference for Z owners, legendary and n00bies alike.
I wanted to ask the general Z public, what they would like to see from the site. I also had a few questions;
First, would you like to be able to post your own write-ups or would you wrather have a set team of people properly construct and moderate these write-ups. Meaing; can any Joe Public write to this site?
Second, would you prefer a purley textual site or do you want fancy pictures and pretty colors?
Third, who wants to help?
I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and if its not too much would a moderator stick this, as I feel it could be a very helpful reference for the entire Z community.
EDIT: Note, this will NOT be a forum and there will be no "members" of this site, just information...

1. Hard to say...I can see benefits and pitfalls for both options. If I had to choose for at least a starting..I'd say making public so that multiple point of views can be addressed. One method may not necessarily work for one person in other words.
2. Pictures always help! Pure text can just end up boring!
3. I haven't done php programing, but I've done programming in general: html, java, javascript, perl. Haha..not sure how I can really help ya, but holla back if ya need any other info feel free to ask.

Its possible but:
It would be boring. No chance for members to debate the pros and cons of specific modifications?
There are hundreds of “how to” sites. Generaly, people don't want to read and think. They just want a quick fix.
No variety (spice of life). I like to study “How to replace rotors” for awhile, then be able to “click” to “ My wife is a *****” to give my brain a break..
Nevertheless best of luck.

First, i believe anyone can do it.. cause although a expert panel of people may be able to do it.. some people are stronger in one aspect than another
Second, a mix of both.. for how to tech's a step by step picture would be nice.
Third, i am a mechanic by nature.. and i am starting to take apart my z in detail.. so i'd love to help in terms of content but not in terms of actual programming

rockinbboy - If your able to throw a design/layout together that would be great. Thats the one thing I don't enjoy is design and layout. Im more of a program lover...
Public or Moderated: I think, my opinion, that I may want to keep it moderated to being, with "members". The members involved would be those who regularly submit technical information to this and other communities. Members will be contacted or can contact the site to get a "membership", which is not more than a name and password, and they can write the tech write ups and moderate (accept, edit or deny) those submitted by the public.
Commenting on Tech Write-Ups: I understand your opinion, and it is extreamly valid. I would, however, wrather not allow commenting on the How-To's. Instead, with Kyles permission, we could build a new thread in a dedicated forum per each write-up. The write-up on the install would contain a link to this site to the respective thread. This would keep server requirments down on my site, while increasing traffic and post count on my350z.com and/or any site that wishes to participate.
Layout and Design: If anyone is able to design or layout the site, I would be more than happy to use it, rockinbboy included. Im just not really into the whole design phase. Im not excluding pictures altogether, just for the layout. There will, hopefully, be tons of pictures for the installs.
Dosens of Sites: Of course there are, but this wont be simply a how to. This would include how to install, how to modify, tech reference and anything else that can benefit this community through information.
Techs and Mechanics: Your mostly the back bone. Those who rip their rides limb from limb within minutes of purchase and those that help the most, because they know wtf their talking about...
Please, your opinions are very helpful to me to determine how this site should progress, let me know what you want!
