Thumbs down Damnit :(.. Been Caught Speeding

The weather was nice out, so I decided to go for a spin. Took my baby out to 110 for her warm up and to stretch her legs before I drove her harder. Well I bumped into a Pikes Peak White Touring Model going to South on 110. I was feeling lucky since I usually don't see any other Z's on the road. I decided I would do some highway driving, so I get on Northern State Parkway east going to Smithtown. I was going around 80 and a State Trooper hiding on the side of the highway shoots his lasers and my V-1 goes nuts. I am like "Crap, damn he clocked me" But I was following traffic going the same speed as the guy in front of me. But about 1/2 a mile down the road he flies down the highway right on my *** with his lights on. I pull to the side and he gives me a ticket for 80 in a 55. No warning, no cutting the speed, nothing. I thought it was going to be a good day spotting another Z on the street, but instead I got a nice ticket.

Driving 80 in this car feels like doing 50. The car is so stable that it seems like your driving slower than you really are.

I know the feeling... 6 Weeks with the 350 = 3 Speeding tickets

93 in 70 Just cruizen down I-35
83 in 60 Passing a new Cobra and A Firehawk.
and 90 in 65 in the Merge Lane

You just can't tell how fast the car is going and I am more conserned with watching the traffic than the spedo...

I'm the same way...damn I-35! Cops love that Interstate. I've had the Z about 6 weeks as well and I've gotten one ticket and one warning. The Z actually saved me that time, but I hate having to worry about my speed so damn much. I used to go faster in my beater!!

I think it's easier to get away with it in a beater. I never really was bothered when driving a beater, but as soon as I get into a sports car cops are always sniffing around for a chase.

Never plead guilty.

Yo man, you gotta watch out on the Northern State! The Trooper station is on the parkway itself! I always see those guys behind the signs and bushes. Sneaky little b@stards!

You better start using your cruise control before they take you license away.

Sorry about your bad luck, that sucks.

I've started watching my speed while working, I figure if I'm gonna get a ticket it's gonna be with the Z not my work van.

The interstate is not the place to speed. I regularly take my Z to the Hill country where Car and Driver does a lot of there testing in southern Ohio. I can do 80-90 on the hilly twisty roads and never see a cop. When I get on the interstate to head home I usually see at least four or five of them in a lot less time than I spent in the hills seeing zero.

Man, that's rough dude! That's going to hurt when you get that next insurance premium statement. You better try and plea those babies down to reduced pointage.

But I can't go below 70 either, the car just wants to go. It keeps begging for the next gear.

For those who need some help in fighting your speeding tickets.

That's some good advice.

How many of you went to court to dispute the ticket and the officer never showed up? I heard that motorcycle cops and female officers always show up. Also, do cops get paid to go to court when you are tring to dispute a ticket or is it on their day off?

I couldn’t agree more. I had my previous car for 10 years and never got a ticket despite driving like I owned the place. I picked up my Z on Monday night and had my first ticket on Saturday morning. Hell, it was Thanksgiving weekend so I didn’t even drive the car for two days. I wasn't speeding by my standards, the road was perfectly straight for miles and I was running late to a friend’s house. Ended up with a ticket for doing 70 in a 55. I tried to tell the Trooper the car was new and very quiet but it didn't work. Now I'm paranoid because if I get another ticket before my court date, it will kind of blow my argument that it is my first ticket ever.

I don't ever see a time when I will be able to drive this car as fast as my previous car, except on the track.

Went through the same thing when I first got My GT Mustang.

Had the car for three weeks and giving my mother in-law her first ride ever in a convertible when I got a ticket. My wife was pissed when she found out.

Next week, we were driving up to DC and came up in the right lane behind a pickup with a camper shell going below the speed limit. Go to the left and speed up to 62 (55mph zone) to pass the truck. This being NC, the pickup decides he doesn't want to get passed and speeds up. At that moment, cop comes over the hill going the other way and I watch in amazement as he turns around and comes after me. I knew exactly how fast I was going when he spotted us, and it wasn't the 69 mph he wrote me up for. I knew that his radar had picked up the pickup as he accelerated but the cop of course thought it was the Mustang.

Great lesson and the wife was no longer pissed. We had never had to worry about it before in any of our previous cars. For the next 3 years, I don't think I ever went more then 5 mph above the limit. Always thought it was funny that I had to drive the Mustang slower then any other car I ever drove.

At least I am used to it when I get my Z. And my wife has not even argued when I told her I would eventually be taking the Z to the track. Gotta let her run someplace.

no tickets, and a damn good thing too. I couldnt afford the insurance then. Im 19years old, so I have to lube up just for a regular premium. if I had a ticket, oh no, wouldnt happen. Im pretty careful. but that 3rd gear always feels left out

"redline me too!!! PLEASE"
"no no, then Im doing 90"
"so??? 90 is fun, hit me HARD!"
"last time I did 90 I got a ticket"
"oh come on, you always redline 1st and that stuck up 2nd gear, you like them better then me dont you?"
"no, I like you too, but your too sexy for these roads"
"awww shucks, your no fun"
"sorry, maybe later"
