Question from a potential UK buyer!
Hi guys!
I am thinking to buy a used 350z from my local dealer. Just a quick question to find out how I can be sure that I am buying a UK car not an import from europe or Japan. Any way of telling without taking the dealers word for it?Also I have heard that the car requires super unleaded fuel (we have two types of unleaded in the UK) is that true?
Thanx.

Hard to say... like bixby said they're all manufactured in Japan. There are noticable differences in the American Z vs Europeans but I'm not sure about UK Z's.
BTW I asked some Z guys in this forum a question before and they were pretty helpful. Good luck.

Find the model identification number on the plate inside the drivers door jamb, tells if the car is a USA model or a CANADA model. It should read something like GLJALSYZ33-EUA.The U is for USA, N is for CANADA. Also the 4th digit is L for left hand drive, R for right hand drive.
If this does not answer your question, go to a Nissan dealer and ask to see a service manual.

Good idea li!
Japanese spec models have a square number plate at the rear (rather than rectangular); they are speed limited to around 110mph; the radio needs a frequency expander, there are no headlamp washer jets fitted (this is a EU requirement for Xenon hedlamps). Also look at the original DVLA document. If a UK Nissan dealer syas that the car is a UK model, then it should be. The European are identical spec to the UK ones (unless they are LHD).

In the UK, a 98 RON fuel is recommended (i.e Shell Optimax); though you could use other Super Unleaded such as BP/Esso. Regular unleaded is not recommended, as the ECU remaps for lower octane petrol, and you will get a performance drop. The ECUs are mapped for different octane ratings around the world; for instance, in Japan 100 RON is popular, so the Japanese ECUs are mapped slightly differently to EuroSpec.
The EU/UK manual states that regual unleaded may be used 'in an emergency' and that a minimum amount should be put in until 98RON petrol is available.
Shell Optimax is 98 RON, other Super Unleaded fuels in the UK are 97RON.
