Default Need Opinion on Extended Warranty

I bet this type of thread has been talked about before, but I think with different cars, and different types owners, each case is relatively unique.

I have an 03’ Track trim and my 3 yr warranty is about to end and I am in debate on whether to get the 75,000 mile extended warranty. Does anyone have an opinion or advise whether to get one or not?

I plan on keeping the car for a while, but plan to tastefully and perhaps mildly fix up the car, mainly suspension (that’s to say until the mod-bug bites ). I mention the 75k miles warranty because I use the car as weekend ride and I bought it used with very low miles to begin with (12k in April, 16k now). So in the coming years (assuming the extended warranty last 7 yrs, perhaps longer? ) I don’t see me driving 75k before then.

I have changed the transmission once in April (factory defect ) and the previous owner had the feathering problem “fixed” (of course temporary, going back to swap tires), the windows also had a problem of rolling back halfway down, which was “fixed” (again, temporary, problem has reoccured), and I am going back to the dealership to get these “fixes” done again.

I guess that most of the car history and should be enough to make a sound opinion.
Any comments or suggestions are well received.

Well, I bought the extended warranty due to it being a first year car. It sounds like most if not all of the 1st yr problems have been taken care of already. I'd probably not spend the money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I still have 45000 miles left on mine but if I were buying an 06 I'd not spend the cash.

Since my first plan is to upgrade the suspension, assuming this fixes the feathering/ alignment problem, I was not too sure if it would be worht it. Thanks bixby!

to add: Bixby- your zaino count is getting crazy!

Extended warranties are a money maker for the seller, but a losing proposition for the average buyer. The probability that your potential claims will exceed the cost of the policy is less than 50 percent. That’s just common sense.

The same can be said when it comes to car insurance, but the piece of mind is always worth it.

Depends on how much value you place on piece of mind. For me, it was an extra 2 years for $750CDN. I felt it was worth it cuz it's my daily driver and I have no plans to mod for another couple of years.

Just purchased Nissan's Security+Plus Gold Extended Vehicle Protection Plan for my Z Roadster (72 months / 100,000 mi; 0 deductible)

Got it for more than $1000.00 less than my local dealer's quote... made it a no-brainer for me...

i think if you're buying new, get the extended warranty. over the life of the car, it is very cost-effective maintenance. these days, one major repair (e.g. new tranny) probably will pay for the cost of the warranty.
