When will 350Z drivers begin talking in “Stages?” It seems to be a favorite with 300ZX drivers who will profile their car as “300XZ Stage 4” or something similar. My knowledge of “Stages” is limited. Can you skip Stage 2 and go to 3, or do you have to complete some sort of “checklist” before you can advance to the next Stage? It all seems silly to me.
The only thing I have showing stages is my Stillen Catalog, they state...
Stage 1 Stillen Hi-Flow Intake
Stage 2 Stillen Exhaust
Stage 3 ECU
Stage 4 Underdrive Pully
Stage 5 Stillen Headers
Stage 6 Stillen Aluminum Flywheel
Stage 7 Hi-Flow Cats
Stage 8 Race Pipes
Stage 9 Supercharger Stage 1
Stage 9a Supercharger Stage 2
Stage 9b Supercharger Stage 3
Stage 9c Supercharger Stage 4
Stage 10 Turbo Kit
Stage 11 Intercooled Turbo Kit
Hope that helps

Stages of kits do vary between companies but they are usually pretty close. Stage 1 is usually the least needed to make the car run FI reliably. Stage 2 usually ups the boost, different software, inline fuel pump and an intercooler if stage 1 didnt include it, again allowing the car to run reliably with a little more boost to get more power. Stage 3 is usually where the forged internals come in. Pistons and hardware, lower compression, more boost possibly a larger turbo at this point. Stage 4 and higher are just full out in all areas, complete fuel system, fully built motor, higher boost numbers, bigger turbo.
Someone chime in if they think otherwise but if you compare most kits out there, not just for the z, they are pretty close to what I said.

I generally associate "stages" with younger kids who really don't have a clue what they're talking about, but that the "Stage 3 RACING Clutch" in their stock Honda makes them go much faster than you. I don't have much experience with stages either, but the limited experience I do have it seems pointless. I just hate it when people who 'think' they know cars talk to me about their Stage 3 this and Stage 4 that.
OK everyone....here is a guide to the 300ZX Stages....
