Default Stage 1? Stage 2? Stage 3?

When will 350Z drivers begin talking in “Stages?” It seems to be a favorite with 300ZX drivers who will profile their car as “300XZ Stage 4” or something similar. My knowledge of “Stages” is limited. Can you skip Stage 2 and go to 3, or do you have to complete some sort of “checklist” before you can advance to the next Stage? It all seems silly to me.

I think that's right. Turbonetics covered what their future stages would be. I believe the turbo they were raffling was considered a stage 2 and that with some future mods that they would come up with it could be made a stage 3 simply enough and gain maybe another 100hp.

Stages of kits do vary between companies but they are usually pretty close. Stage 1 is usually the least needed to make the car run FI reliably. Stage 2 usually ups the boost, different software, inline fuel pump and an intercooler if stage 1 didnt include it, again allowing the car to run reliably with a little more boost to get more power. Stage 3 is usually where the forged internals come in. Pistons and hardware, lower compression, more boost possibly a larger turbo at this point. Stage 4 and higher are just full out in all areas, complete fuel system, fully built motor, higher boost numbers, bigger turbo.

Someone chime in if they think otherwise but if you compare most kits out there, not just for the z, they are pretty close to what I said.

anyone got any advice on what I should do with my Z. I want to add boost to it, but am not sure if I should worry or not about changing any of the internals " pistons etc. ".?

I generally associate "stages" with younger kids who really don't have a clue what they're talking about, but that the "Stage 3 RACING Clutch" in their stock Honda makes them go much faster than you. I don't have much experience with stages either, but the limited experience I do have it seems pointless. I just hate it when people who 'think' they know cars talk to me about their Stage 3 this and Stage 4 that.
